U.16 Vietnam won with an unbelievable score at the Southeast Asian tournament, what did coach Minh Chien say?

The Vietnam U.16 team under the leadership of coach Tran Minh Chien arrived in Surabaya City - Indonesia on June 20, to prepare for the 2024 Southeast Asian U.16 tournament. After a day of training, the young Vietnamese players played their opening match on the afternoon of June 22, against the Brunei U.16 team.

With high spirits and determination in the first match of the tournament, the U.16 Vietnam team showed superiority in terms of skill level, completely dominating the opponents in the same region. In the end, coach Tran Minh Chien and his team won with an unbelievable score of 15-0 against U.16 Brunei.

Vietnam U.16 team won big on opening day

Goals scored by: Viet Long (hat-trick: minutes 17, 22, 40), Hong Phong (minutes 33, 49), Thai Hieu (minutes 37, 84), Gia Bao (minute 43), Van Bach (minute 52), Cao Cuong (minute 57), Thanh Binh (hat-trick: minutes 65, 86, 87), Hong Quang (minute 68), Nguyen Luc (minute 90+5).

The favorable results in the opening match will motivate the U.16 Vietnam team to play better in the upcoming matches. Coach Tran Minh Chien's goal is to take his team to the final match of the U.16 Southeast Asia tournament. After the victory over U.16 Brunei, U.16 Vietnam will face U.16 Cambodia (June 25) and U.16 Myanmar (June 28). In particular, the match against U.16 Myanmar is considered the "group final", deciding the ticket to continue in Group B.

The opponent is too weak.

Coach Tran Minh Chien said: “This is the score that the U.16 Vietnam coaching staff wanted. Anyway, it must be said that Brunei is too weak compared to U.16 Vietnam. I am very happy that the players are not injured. The whole team respected and did not underestimate the opponent. I am satisfied with the way the players played and their attitude.”

This is the second biggest victory in the history of Vietnamese men's football. Previously in 2015, U16 Vietnam defeated U16 Guam with 18 goals to nil.

Viet Long, the player who scored a hat-trick for U.16 Vietnam, happily shared: “Our team played well. In the early stages, we did not take advantage of the opportunities. But in the later stages, we all scored a number of goals against Brunei. I am satisfied with this match. But the team will still have to try harder in the next matches.”

At 7:30 p.m. on June 25, U.16 Vietnam will play the second match against U.16 Cambodia. According to the rules, the top three teams in each group and the second-placed team with the best results in each group will advance to the semi-finals.

Match schedule of U.16 Vietnam at the 2024 Southeast Asian U.16 tournament

The 2024 Southeast Asian U-16 Championship will feature 12 teams, divided into three groups (each group has four teams). The teams will compete in a round-robin format to calculate points and rank in each group. The three group winners and the second-placed team with the best record will compete in the semi-finals.

According to the draw results, Group A includes host U.16 Indonesia, U.16 Laos, U.16 Philippines and U.16 Singapore. Group B includes U.16 Vietnam, U.16 Myanmar, U.16 Brunei and U.16 Cambodia. Group C includes U.16 Thailand, U.16 Australia, U.16 Malaysia and U.16 Timor Leste.
