Leaders of six countries, including Egypt, Comoros, South Africa, Senegal, Uganda and Zambia, attended an online conference on June 5 to discuss details and promote the African Initiative.

President El-Sisi stressed the need to respect international law, resolve disputes by peaceful means and give priority to dialogue, and called for mobilizing international efforts to reach a solution to the conflict to achieve global peace and security.

According to Mr. El-Sisi, Egypt will do its utmost to contribute to preventing such a crisis and overcoming its political , economic and social consequences.

At the conference, the leaders stressed that resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict is in the interest of Africa, given its serious consequences for the countries of the continent and the rest of the world , especially in terms of food security, energy and international finance.

The leaders also stressed that the Africa Initiative should have mechanisms to attract both Russia and Ukraine.

The meeting comes nearly two weeks after South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that a group of African leaders would visit Russia and Ukraine "as soon as possible" to discuss a potential peace plan for the conflict.

Since it erupted in February 2022, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has had a major impact on African countries, which are already suffering from rising grain prices and disruptions to global trade.
