Vietnam Container Joint Stock Company (Viconship) has just received the transfer of more than 12.76 million shares of Vinaship Shipping Joint Stock Company. This deal has made Viconship hold 40.01% ownership, becoming the second largest shareholder of Vinaship.
Vinaship Maritime Transport Joint Stock Company, formerly Maritime Transport Company III, was established in 1984. The company's revenue mainly comes from international maritime transport business and partly from transportation, loading and unloading, and container yard exploitation services.
Vinaship currently owns a fleet of 5 ships with a total capacity of 95,861 DWT, of which 3 ships have a capacity of 22,000 - 27,000 DWT, 1 ship has a capacity of 13,245 DWT and 1 ship has a capacity of 6,500 DWT. As of June 30, 2024, Vinaship owns an asset size of 635.3 billion VND, and does not use debt when the owner's equity is up to 539.28 billion VND, accounting for 84.9% of total capital.
Becoming a major shareholder at Vinaship is considered Viconship's latest move in consolidating the seaport - maritime transport ecosystem, aiming to increase its position in operating and exploiting the integrated logistics chain from owning a seaport with good operational efficiency to owning a container warehouse system and sea and road transport services of this enterprise.
Recently, Viconship has been actively conducting M&A deals. Most recently, in July 2024, this enterprise increased its ownership to 99.999% of the charter capital at Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port Company Limited. After successfully acquiring Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port, Viconship is currently the largest seaport enterprise in Hai Phong port cluster with a total handling capacity of 2.6 million TEUs (an increase of 36% compared to 2022), accounting for 30% of the market share in the whole region.
According to Vinconship representative, on November 4, 2024, Vinconship was approved in principle to upgrade Hai Phong maritime channel, dredging to a depth of -8.5m. Vietnam Maritime Administration issued document 5100/CHHVN-KHĐT on agreeing to the location and technical parameters of the maritime channel section from upstream of Nam Dinh Vu port to Nam Hai Dinh Vu port area in Hai Phong maritime channel (from route Km31+200 to route Km34+900): length of the channel section is 3.7 km and reaches a depth of -8.5 m; width of the channel section from route Km31+200 to Km32+200 (length 1,000 m) from 80 to 120 m; from route Km32+200 to Km33+770 (length 1,570 m) 80 m; from Km33+770 to Km34+900 (length 1,130 m) from 80 to 110 m.
