On the afternoon of September 12, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Minister - Prime Minister of Flanders, Kingdom of Belgium Jan Jambon, who is on a working visit to Vietnam from September 12-16, 2023.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his pleasure at meeting again with Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Belgium and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership on agriculture; affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and advocates strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Belgium as well as with Belgian regions and communities; highly appreciated the visit to Vietnam by the Minister-President of Flanders with a delegation of 30 large enterprises as well as the rich working program with Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities.

Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for receiving the delegation; expressed his deep impression of Vietnam's dynamic socio-economic development; affirmed that Flanders always considers Vietnam a priority partner in the region and will promote further strengthening of friendship and effective, substantive cooperation with Vietnam in Flanders' areas of strength, especially in transportation, seaport logistics, high technology, renewable energy, smart agriculture, digital transformation, etc.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Minister-President of Flanders to continue to pay attention to developing relations with Vietnam, especially in economic, trade and investment cooperation, contributing to promoting and further strengthening the Vietnam-Belgium relationship; thanked the Flanders Parliament for promptly ratifying the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA); asked the Flanders region to push for the Belgian Federal Parliament to soon ratify the EVIPA; hoped that the Kingdom of Belgium would urge the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" on Vietnamese seafood products to maintain the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese fishermen and meet the interests of millions of European consumers.

The Prime Minister also asked the Flanders region to continue expanding the market for Vietnamese exports and encourage businesses to do business and invest in Vietnam. The Prime Minister thanked and asked the Flanders region to continue supporting Vietnam in training, especially in the fields of agriculture, transportation, and port logistics.
For his part, Minister-President of Flanders Jan Jambon affirmed his support for trade liberalization and pledged to support Vietnam in strengthening comprehensive relations with the EU, and will urge the Federal Parliament to ratify the EVIPA; saying that early ratification of the EVIPA will bring practical benefits to investors from the Kingdom of Belgium and the EU.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in sustainable agriculture, investment in construction and dredging of maritime routes; and study the establishment of a new cooperation mechanism between the Flanders region and regions of Vietnam to improve the quality and effectiveness of cooperation between Vietnam and Belgium.
