Fostering the great relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos

On the afternoon of November 8, President Luong Cuong and Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith had an online meeting to discuss the situation of the two countries and the Vietnam-Laos relationship.

In a friendly atmosphere, comrade General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith congratulated Comrade Luong Cuong on being elected by the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of President, demonstrating the trust and appreciation of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for President Luong Cuong's contributions to the cause of national construction and defense.

At the same time, Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his belief that President Luong Cuong and other senior leaders will lead Vietnam to further development, successfully achieve the set goals, and turn Vietnam into a developed industrialized country with high income.

The Lao General Secretary and President highly appreciated the traditional friendship and close ties between the Party, State and people of Laos and Vietnam; thanked Vietnam for its valuable assistance to Laos over the past time in the spirit of “biting a grain of rice in half, breaking a piece of vegetable in half”; especially, for its multifaceted support to help Laos successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair and Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2024.

The Lao Party General Secretary and President affirmed that he will closely coordinate with President Luong Cuong to implement high-level agreements reached between the two countries, contributing to further promoting the special close relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

President Luong Cuong thanked General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith for being the first foreign leader to send a congratulatory letter and hold an online meeting right after the President was elected to the new position; demonstrating the warm feelings of the General Secretary and President of Laos towards the senior leaders of Vietnam as well as the President personally.

President Luong Cuong affirmed that in his new position, he will continue to work closely with the Lao Party General Secretary, President and senior Lao leaders to foster the great relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

President Luong Cuong and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith informed each other about the situation in each country and expressed their excitement at the achievements each country has made in socio-economic development.

The two leaders emphasized their determination to join hands, be unanimous, and stand side by side to effectively implement the Resolution of the Party Congress of each country, especially in the pivotal year of 2025, and coordinate to prepare well for the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the continuous development of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in recent times; and agreed to continue to pay close attention and direct relevant agencies of the two sides to focus on effectively implementing the results of the meeting between the two Politburoes and the recent high-level agreements reached.

At the same time, actively prepare well for the upcoming 47th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the two countries; speed up the removal of difficulties and obstacles of a number of key projects to develop economic cooperation between the two countries more sustainably and effectively.

The two leaders also agreed to continue promoting propaganda and education about the traditional history of the special Vietnam-Laos relationship, increase timely information sharing, and closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums.

The Lao Party General Secretary and President reiterated the invitation to President Luong Cuong and his wife to pay a State visit to Laos at an appropriate time. President Luong Cuong happily accepted the invitation and suggested that the two sides make arrangements through diplomatic channels./.
