The World Boxing Federation (World Boxing) previously issued a regulation requiring athletes who want to participate in the 2025 World Boxing Championship to undergo gender testing.
The policy has created heated debate, and many people understand that this request is aimed at two boxers, Imane Khalif (Algeria) and Lin Yu Ting (Taiwan).
They are the ones who won the gold medals of the Paris 2024 Olympics in 2 different weight classes. Notably, both Imane Khalif and Lin Yu Ting caused fierce controversy due to their somewhat masculine appearance. Their fighting style also showed superior strength compared to other boxers.
The gender issues of these two boxers have created a lot of controversy. This year, World Boxing has decided to require athletes to undergo gender testing.
This would seem to be an obstacle for Lin Yu Ting. But her coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang, who recruited the athlete, did not mind. It is understood that the Taiwan Boxing Association has conducted the required test and sent the results to World Boxing.
However, up to now, World Boxing has not given any response. Therefore, the Taiwan Boxing Federation decided not to let Lin Yu Ting compete. AFP quoted this organization as saying: "We cannot send our athletes to compete without any guarantees."
The statement from the Taiwan Boxing Association is a way of saying that they want to avoid trouble, as World Boxing cannot guarantee Lin Yu Ting's eligibility to compete.
Both Imane Khalif and Lin Yu Ting were previously banned from competing in the International Boxing Association (IBA) championships for failing gender testing. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) later allowed them to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 2025 World Boxing Championship will take place in Liverpool (England) from September 4 to 14.
