Determining 16 teams that have won tickets to the 2026 World Cup

(Dan Tri) - As of the morning of September 5, FIFA has identified 16 teams that will soon have tickets to attend the 2026 World Cup taking place in the US, Mexico and Canada.

Host (3 teams): USA, Mexico, Canada

Asia (6 teams): Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Uzbekistan.

South America (6 teams): Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay.

Oceania (1 team): New Zealand

This morning (September 5), the penultimate round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America took place. Before this round, three teams had already secured tickets to the World Cup: Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil.

After the penultimate round of matches, FIFA has confirmed three more South American teams to participate in the biggest festival on the planet: Uruguay, Colombia and Paraguay.

At home, Uruguay easily won 3-0 against Peru. La Celeste's three goals were scored by Rodrigo Aguirre (14'), Giorgian de Arrascaeta (58') and Federico Viñas (80'). With this result, Uruguay is ranked third with 27 points, 8 points ahead of 7th-placed Venezuela.

Similar to Uruguay, Colombia also registered for the 2026 World Cup after a 3-0 victory over Bolivia, with goals from James Rodriguez (31'), Jhon Cordoba (74') and Juan Quintero (83'). With this victory, Colombia rose to 5th place with 25 points. Thus, Colombia returned to the World Cup after being absent from the 2022 World Cup.

Paraguay finally completed the task after a 0-0 draw against Ecuador. They also had 25 points like Colombia but finished behind due to an inferior goal difference.

The final round of South American qualifying for the 2026 World Cup is still to come. Venezuela (18 points) and Bolivia (17 points) will compete for 7th place to qualify for the Intercontinental play-off.

Previously, Asia had determined 6 places to attend the 2026 World Cup through the third qualifying round, which are Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Uzbekistan. Of which, Jordan and Uzbekistan are two teams participating in the World Cup for the first time.

Oceania also secured a single spot when New Zealand secured a ticket after a 7-0 win over Fiji. The three host teams, the US, Canada and Mexico, automatically qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

Up to this point, the two regions of Europe and Africa have not yet determined which representatives to attend the World Cup. In Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia are holding a big advantage. Meanwhile, the European qualifying round has just taken place in the first rounds.
