Vietnamese university rankings soar, with some schools in the world's top 500

Ten universities in Vietnam have entered the QS World University Rankings 2026, with many jumping 13-100 places from last year.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has just announced the world's top university rankings for 2026. Vietnam has 10 universities on the list, an increase of 4 compared to last year.

The rankings of Vietnamese universities this time have significantly improved. Except for Hue University which dropped in rank compared to last year (to 1,401+), Hanoi University of Science and Technology maintained its position (1,201-1,400) and 4 newly ranked schools, the remaining 4 schools all increased in rank.

Specifically, Duy Tan University leads with 482nd position, up 13 places compared to last year. Following is Ton Duc Thang University with 684th position, up 27 places.

Hanoi National University is ranked in the 761-770 group, up 90 places; while Ho Chi Minh City National University is in the 801-850 group, up 100 places.

The representative universities of Vietnam appearing in this ranking for the first time are Van Lang University, Can Tho University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Danang University.

Overall, the US is the country with the most ranked schools with 192 schools, followed by the UK with 90 schools and China with 72 schools. This is also the 14th consecutive year that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US) has maintained its top position. Imperial College London (UK) retains its 2nd position. Ranked 3rd is Stanford University (US), followed by Oxford University (UK) and Harvard University (US).

By region, Asia has 565 schools in the rankings, the most of any continent.

This year, QS surveyed more than 1,500 higher education institutions in more than 100 countries and territories according to 9 criteria. Of which, academic reputation has the largest weight (30%), followed by citations (20%). The remaining criteria are school prestige, faculty/student ratio, internationality, international research network, employment outcomes and sustainability.
