Rockets struck the vicinity of a US base near the city of al-Shaddadi in northeastern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said, adding that the rockets were likely launched from the Iraqi border into Syrian territory by Iran-backed Islamic Resistance Forces in Iraq.

Also on December 1, the US military sent reinforcements to another military base in the town of Kharab al-Jir. This base is used by the US as a staging post for military vehicles to deploy operations inside Syria, due to its location near the Syria-Iraq border.

According to SOHR, Iran-backed militia groups in Iraq and Syria have resumed attacks on US bases in Syria, part of a "revenge campaign for Gaza".

Since October 19, SOHR has recorded a total of 46 attacks on US bases in Syria, including nine raids on al-Shaddadi base.

The US military has established bases in several areas in northeastern Syria, especially in oil and gas fields. Damascus has repeatedly accused Washington of attempting to steal and smuggle Syrian oil and gas abroad, using convoys of tanks and trucks, in coordination with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.
