According to initial information, on the afternoon of July 7, three boys invited each other to play at Ea Kar Lake. The youngest child, a 3-year-old boy, sat on the shore, while the other two (both 7 years old) went swimming in the lake. When the children did not return in the evening, the family organized a search and discovered the youngest child sitting alone on the shore with the clothes and sandals of the two older children.

The incident was quickly reported to the authorities. The Fire Police and Rescue Force of Dak Lak Provincial Police coordinated with local police and residents to organize the search. Because Ea Kar Lake has a large area (more than 200 hectares) and the incident occurred at night, the rescue work encountered many difficulties.
The rescue team used specialized equipment and oxygen tanks to dive to find the victims. At about 10:50 p.m. the same day, the bodies of the two children were found and handed over to their families for funeral arrangements.
