Amazon is about to deploy Kuiper satellite project in Vietnam

DNVN - On August 26, 2025, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long received a delegation from Amazon Group, led by Mr. Gonzalo de Dios, Director of Global Licensing and International Legal Relations of Project Kuiper, to discuss the Kuiper project - an initiative to provide broadband internet services from low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites.

Regarding the Kuiper project, an Amazon representative said that the goal of this strategic initiative of the group is to deploy more than 3,200 LEO satellites, providing high-speed internet (400 Mbps for individuals, 1 Gbps for businesses) and low latency, targeting unserved or underserved areas, such as remote areas and islands.

Amazon has established Amazon Kuiper Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh City, committing to invest 570 million USD to build infrastructure, including building 6 ground stations (gateways) by 2030 and manufacturing terminal equipment in Bac Ninh through local partners.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long highly appreciated the progress and achievements of the Kuiper project, and affirmed that Vietnam always focuses on developing digital infrastructure, including LEO satellite technology to serve socio -economic development. The Kuiper project is also very suitable for Vietnam's development needs.

The Deputy Minister has directed the Department of Telecommunications and the Department of Radio Frequency to coordinate with the Kuiper project representatives to organize a technical meeting to resolve problems and complete the project dossier. The goal is to submit the pilot dossier to the Prime Minister in September 2025.
