15 people were poisoned after eating mushrooms picked in the forest.

On the afternoon of May 29, Lam Dong Department of Health said that as of the morning of the same day, 15 patients from 8 different families had come to the Di Linh District Medical Center and Son Dien Commune Medical Station for examination and treatment of poisoning due to eating poisonous mushrooms picked from the forest.

Of these 15 patients, 10 were treated at Di Linh District Medical Center, 3 were treated at Son Dien Commune Medical Station, and 2 were transferred to Lam Dong II Hospital (in Bao Loc City) for further treatment at the request of the patients' families.

Poisonous wild mushrooms

Currently, 2 patients were transferred to Lam Dong II Hospital and have stabilized (1 case discharged); 10 cases treated at Di Linh District Medical Center have been discharged, 8 cases, and 2 patients are continuing treatment, all are stable; 3 cases at Son Dien Commune Medical Station have been discharged.

Previously, on the evening of May 26, Di Linh District Medical Center received information that a number of patients in Son Dien commune came to the commune health station with symptoms of abdominal cramps accompanied by vomiting and diarrhea many times; 2 patients had symptoms of convulsions, through medical history, suspected poisoning due to eating wild mushrooms.

Immediately afterwards, Di Linh District Medical Center sent 2 ambulances, 2 doctors and 2 nurses to assist and transfer the patient to the center for further treatment and promptly reported to the Provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department and Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health.

Upon receiving the information, Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health directed the Provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Sub-Department to coordinate with the Provincial Center for Disease Control, the Medical Center and the Di Linh District Health Department to investigate and verify the matter.

All of these patients were related to eating mushrooms that Mr. K'Bet's family (residing in Jang Par village, Son Dien commune, Di Linh district) picked in the forest and distributed to 7 other families in the same clan living nearby. After eating 30 minutes, the patients all had symptoms of chest tightness, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and convulsions. The patients were diagnosed with digestive disorders suspected of poisoning due to the toxin of wild mushrooms (a type of brown-gray-ribbed mushroom).

Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health requests the Di Linh District Health Department to increase information and disseminate knowledge about prevention and control of mushroom poisoning to households so that all people absolutely do not collect, process, or eat wild mushrooms or strange mushrooms suspected of causing poisoning. When people accidentally eat poisonous mushrooms and have symptoms of suspected poisoning related to eating mushrooms, they need to go to the nearest medical facility immediately for emergency treatment.
