The final match of the 3-cushion carom Billiards tournament organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation (HBSF), taking place on September 7, was a fateful match between Tran Quyet Chien and 2023 world champion Bao Phuong Vinh. Before the championship match, Quyet Chien left a strong impression with a 21-point cue and a 5,000 index (scoring 40 points in 8 cue turns) to defeat Nguyen Chi Long in the semi-finals.

Tran Quyet Chien entered the game explosively

Facing Bao Phuong Vinh, Tran Quyet Chien entered the match extremely excited. Right in the first turn, the number 1 player in Vietnam brought home 8 points. In the second turn, Quyet Chien scored a series of 6 points, then continued to launch a series of 9 points in the third turn. The player from Ha Tinh only needed 3 turns to bring the match into the break, leading Bao Phuong Vinh with a score of 23-0.

Bao Phuong Binh chased fiercely in the second half

It seemed like the final match would be one-sided with Tran Quyet Chien's rise, but Bao Phuong Vinh had a strong breakthrough in the second half. Quyet Chien could no longer maintain his scoring speed. Meanwhile, Phuong Vinh was very careful with each ball to catch up with his senior. The series of 9 points in the 6th round was the start of the sprint of the 2023 carom 3-cushion billiards world champion.

In the 18th turn, Tran Quyet Chien was very close to victory when he led 38-25, Bao Phuong Vinh scored a series of 8 points to shorten the gap to 33-38. After 20 turns, the gap was only 1 point, when Quyet Chien led 39-38. However, in the final moves, Phuong Vinh still lacked a bit of precision.

On the 33rd turn, taking advantage of the opportunity with the "glasses" ball, Tran Quyet Chien hit a simple a-ban to end the match. Winning the final match by a narrow score of 40-38 against Bao Phuong Vinh, Tran Quyet Chien won the championship.

Besides the championship, Tran Quyet Chien also won two secondary awards: "excellent series" (21 points) and "best game" (5,000 points), both from the semi-final match against Nguyen Chi Long.

Tran Quyet Chien is in good form in recent domestic tournaments. Vietnam's No. 1 player needs to maintain this competitive pace to aim for more important international arenas in the final stage of 2025, including 3 World Cup billiards stages and the World Championship.
