Binh Dinh: Illegal construction, must deal with officials first to set an example

According to statistics, there are currently over 7,000 cases of land encroachment and illegal house construction in Binh Dinh province.

Over the first 6 months of this year, the situation of encroachment and illegal construction in the province has had more positive changes compared to previous years.

In particular, after the conference on urban order management, construction order; anti-encroachment, land occupation, and illegal construction, the leaders of Binh Dinh province directed that no new cases of land encroachment are allowed to arise.

According to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, from 2024, the People's Committee of the province has a plan to assign annual targets for localities to gradually handle violations. Any locality that allows new cases to arise will be severely punished.

"However, when handling violations, there must be reason and emotion. Not all violators will be handled. Because there are many cases where people have built houses for a long time (before 1993), but do not understand the law and do not declare, leading to houses without legal documents. These cases must be resolved for them. Or cases where poor households also have to find housing for them. All other violations must be strictly handled," said Mr. Pham Anh Tuan.

It is expected that in 2-3 years, Binh Dinh province will complete handling of encroachment and illegal construction cases (Binh Dinh).

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, in the principle of handling violations, leaders, officials, and party members who violate must be dealt with first, only then will the people be convinced and comply. This process will be monitored quarterly for inspection and control.

"Each locality must classify and divide the cases into stages to handle them in turn, and we will monitor them. Our view is that if there are violations, they will be handled no matter what, there will be no cover-up or tolerance. The plan is that in 2-3 years, the province will finish handling the cases of encroachment and illegal construction," Mr. Pham Anh Tuan added.
