Minister Nguyen Kim Son: Vietnamese universities will change towards streamlining and multidisciplinary

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son talked about the development orientations of higher education institutions in the coming time at the ceremony in Nha Trang.

On the morning of September 12, Nha Trang University held a ceremony to announce and award the decision to recognize Dr. Quach Hoai Nam as the school's principal for the 2020-2025 term.

At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Kim Son - Minister of Education and Training - had discussions on orientation for the development of higher education.

Developing multidisciplinary and multi-field universities

According to the Minister, the university sector in particular and the education sector in general are facing enormous demands and challenges.

Schools like Nha Trang University will soon be in the priority group to develop into regional universities, focusing on modernizing and improving the quality of university education.

In addition, the Minister suggested that universities need to build a modern management system, operate on a digital platform, be highly autonomous and transparent.

Regarding some other development orientations, the Minister pointed out that universities need to innovate training, promote scientific research and technology transfer, and build a high-quality human resource team.

"To develop, in addition to investing in external development, universities need to make efforts from within, affirming themselves through training and research, and moving towards a multi-disciplinary university model," said the Minister.

Regarding the orientation for Nha Trang University, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that as a school with strengths in marine technology, marine economy or seafood, it needs to make more efforts to develop to become a key training facility for marine-related issues in the region and the whole country.

Discussing the issue of arranging models and organizing university facilities in the coming time, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that in the university network planning, there may also be arrangements of higher education facilities, however, the ministry will have instructions on how to adjust them in the coming time.

The Minister also stated that according to Decree 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development, the internal organizational model of higher education institutions will also be adjusted to make the operation of universities increasingly streamlined, effective and efficient.

"The Ministry of Education and Training will also grant greater autonomy to universities, but the requirements and directions will also be greater," said Mr. Son.

Dr. Quach Hoai Nam becomes Rector of Nha Trang University

At the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Kim Son presented the decision on recognizing the principal of Nha Trang University for the 2020-2025 term.

Accordingly, the decision recognized Dr. Quach Hoai Nam, Vice Principal of Nha Trang University, to hold the position of Principal of this school.

Mr. Quach Hoai Nam was born in 1974, from Thai Binh (old), is a PhD in marine engineering. He is a former student of Nha Trang University.

Before being appointed as principal, Mr. Nam studied for his master's and doctorate degrees at this school, after which he was a senior lecturer and vice principal of the school.

Receiving the decision, Dr. Quach Hoai Nam said that receiving the decision to become the school principal in the current context is a challenge, but also full of opportunities and expectations.

"To achieve the upcoming goals, the role and responsibility of the principal is very important. I am aware that I can only fulfill my responsibility when, together with the school's leadership, all teachers, staff, workers and students of the whole school, unite and work together to move Nha Trang University forward" - Mr. Nam shared.
