Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the International Scientific Conference Le Trung Ho said that one of the key tasks of An Giang province at present is to strive to complete the nomination dossier for the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site for the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to register it as a World Cultural Heritage by 2027.

Oc Eo culture is an ancient culture formed and developed in the Southern region of Vietnam, from the 1st to the 7th century AD; named in 1944 by the French scholar - Louis Malleret. His name was given to an archaeological site first excavated by L. Malleret in the field east of Ba The mountain. This is a major culture in the history of Vietnam, closely associated with the country and people in the lower Mekong Delta and has a close relationship with the history of ancient Southeast Asia.

This is a typical relic site with outstanding global value, integrity and authenticity, eligible to establish a dossier to propose World Cultural Heritage. On September 27, 2012, the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological and architectural relic was ranked as a Special National Monument. On January 23, 2021, the Prime Minister approved the Plan for preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the Oc Eo - Ba The Special National Monument. On January 4, 2022, the World Heritage Center included the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological relic site, An Giang province - Vietnam in the List of tentative dossiers for world cultural heritage (to date, phase 1 of the dossier has been completed).

Currently, An Giang province is focusing on phase 2, striving to submit the draft nomination dossier before September 30, 2025; and before February 1, 2026, to submit the official nomination dossier to the World Heritage Center.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site is a large-scale complex of religious and belief architectural relics, where the most unique archaeological relics in the South are concentrated; contributing to sketching the appearance of a large religious center and the very unique cultural life of the residents of the ancient urban area of ​​Oc Eo in history.

At the workshop, managers, scientists and experts assessed the completeness of existing documents, supplemented newly updated research results as a scientific basis for the construction of a nomination dossier for the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site, An Giang Province to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a world cultural heritage. Clearly identifying "Outstanding global value" and honoring the historical, cultural and scientific values ​​of the Oc Eo - Ba The Archaeological Site, An Giang Province to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a world cultural heritage as a solid basis for the preservation and promotion of values ​​associated with sustainable tourism development in the locality.
