Mr. Kulachet Dharachandra, Country Director of SCG Group in Vietnam and General Director of LSP, said that LSP is implementing the LSP Reclamation Project (LSPE) worth 500 million USD to build two Ethane storage terminals.
He expressed his hope that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee would soon approve the 11th (amended) investment registration certificate related to the project next October. LSP also needs support in procedures and licenses to call for investment and establish joint ventures for new projects and modern technology.
According to Mr. Cao Hong Phong, Deputy Director of Gemalink Port, with the Cai Mep - Thi Vai wharf route planned seamlessly, along with good natural conditions and available cargo sources, this area can completely compete with Singapore. Gemalink Port has proposed to continue investing in the Cai Mep Ha general port project, with a commitment to immediate cargo sources. Gemalink Port is one of 19 ports in the world capable of receiving container ships with a capacity of up to 250,000 DWT, equivalent to 24,000 TEU. In 2024, the port received 525 ships with an output of 1.75 million TEU and in 2025, it is expected to reach nearly 2 million TEU.
The Vietnam Maritime Administration and the Ministry of Construction are proposing to increase the wharf length from 510m to 900m, ensuring the simultaneous reception of two 250,000 DWT ships. Mr. Cao Hong Phong added that with this planning, the entire area from the existing CMIT port to the downstream Cai Mep Ha port will have a wharf length of about 22km, larger than the scale of Singapore port.
At that time, Cai Mep area will have advantages in terms of wharf length and the ability to receive the largest sized ships that no other country in the world has.
Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc believes that with high political determination and the support of investors, Cai Mep - Thi Vai will soon become one of the strong marine economic centers not only in Vietnam but also internationally.
