Rach Mieu 2 Bridge put into operation 5 months earlier than planned

Up to now, the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project has been completed. The Ministry of Construction has coordinated with relevant units to complete acceptance procedures and will inaugurate and put into operation from August 19, 2025, about 5 months earlier than planned.

On the morning of August 19, in Dong Thap, the Ministry of Construction in coordination with the People's Committee of Dong Thap province and the People's Committee of Vinh Long province will hold the inauguration ceremony and put into operation the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Construction Investment Project, connecting Tien Giang province and Ben Tre province (now Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces). This is one of the projects included in the inauguration ceremony and groundbreaking ceremony of 250 projects and works with a total investment of 1,280,000 billion VND to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction investment project started on March 29, 2022. The project is considered a symbol of the self-reliance of the Vietnamese bridge workers. Through this project, it once again affirms the bridge-building level of the Vietnamese engineers and workers who have completely mastered the design and construction of large and complex projects such as cable-stayed bridges.

During the implementation process, the Project has experienced many difficulties such as: serious impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, site clearance, fluctuations in raw material prices... However, thanks to the attention and close direction of the Party and State leaders, the close coordination of the two former provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre (now Dong Thap and Vinh Long provinces); the spirit of "overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain", "sticking to the construction site, sticking to the progress", "3 shifts, 4 crews" construction; implementing and applying many effective technical innovations, contributing to ensuring the quality of the project and shortening the progress.

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction investment project has its starting point at Dong Tam intersection (intersection between National Highway 1 and Provincial Road 870) in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province (now in Hung Long commune, Dong Thap province); the end point is at about Km16+660 National Highway 60, about 0.71km from the northern abutment of Ham Luong bridge in Ben Tre city, Ben Tre province (now in Ben Tre ward, Vinh Long province).

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project has a total route length of about 17.6 km, of which Rach Mieu 2 Bridge crosses the main channel of Tien River with a clearance size of BxH = 110x37.5 m and 220 x30 m) width to meet the scale of 04 lanes of motor vehicles.

The approach road (including some medium and small bridges on the route) is designed with the scale of a level III plain road according to TCVN 4054-2005 standard, design speed Vtk = 80 km/h. The cross-section meets the scale of 4 motor vehicle lanes and 2 mixed vehicle lanes.

The project has a total investment of 6,810.11 billion VND, from the central budget. Specifically, the 2021 - 2025 period: About 5,591.98 billion VND (including capital allocated in the Medium-term Public Investment Plan for the 2021 - 2025 period in Decision No. 1535/QD-TTg dated September 15, 2021 of the Prime Minister is 4,399 billion VND; additional balanced capital from regulating and adjusting the medium-term public investment plan for the 2021 - 2025 period of the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) is 1,192.98 billion VND). The 2026 - 2030 period is about 1,218.13 billion VND.

The completion and operation of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge will end the congestion and more effectively distribute traffic between Vinh Long and Dong Thap. At the same time, it will contribute to completing the regional traffic network, meeting the increasing transportation demand on National Highway 60, ensuring security, defense and socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta; shortening the traffic distance between Ho Chi Minh City and the eastern provinces of the Mekong Delta such as Vinh Long, Can Tho, and Ca Mau.
