Reproductive health care (RH) for adolescents and young people (YM) is one of the important factors that determine the quality of population, the quality of human resources and the future of generations. Determining that goal, the Provincial Department of Population and Family Planning has coordinated with all levels, sectors and local authorities to implement many solutions, bringing this activity into depth, practicality and effectiveness.

Diversify forms of communication

From the beginning of 2024 up to now, the Department of Population - Health Education Communication, Viet Tri City Medical Center has organized 32 communication conferences on reproductive health care for adolescents/young people at schools for over 10,000 students and teachers with rich propaganda content such as pre-marital health care counseling, sharing knowledge and skills on health care, injury prevention, school violence, population policy... In addition, communication, counseling, and pre-marital health examinations were organized in 22 wards and communes; 22 non-communicable disease screening sessions were integrated with 400 people receiving counseling and health examinations.

The city has also actively maintained the activities of pre-marital health examination and counseling clubs for adolescents, mother and girl clubs, clubs for mothers with minors, young people, pre-marital clubs, friendly corners in schools... with the aim of raising awareness and changing behavior for adolescent and young people, especially women. At the clubs, members are shared about adolescent and young people's reproductive health, consulted, and answered students' questions about psychological and physiological changes during puberty, how to prevent pre-marital sex, consequences of abortion, cases of sexual abuse...

Thanh Thuy High School, Thanh Thuy district currently has over 1,200 students. In recent years, the school has regularly and effectively implemented communication work on sex education and adolescent reproductive health care for students. Teacher Ly Thi Chat - Vice Principal of the school said: Through extracurricular communication sessions on adolescent reproductive health care, students are provided with information by propagandists about the current situation of pregnancy and abortion among adolescents in our country; disseminated and reminded to be vigilant against bad, toxic, and false information that exists and spreads on social networking sites. At the same time, they are equipped with knowledge about gender, sex, changes in the psychology and physiology of puberty; issues of friendship and love among adolescents; safe sex, consequences of unwanted pregnancy and unsafe abortion; contraceptive measures, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases; Necessary skills to protect yourself when being harassed, sexually abused... In addition, the school's teaching staff regularly incorporates this propaganda content into classes, especially in Biology, Economics and Law, Life Skills Education... Thereby, helping students have a full and correct understanding of the psychology of their age.

Contribute to raising awareness

In recent years, the Department of Population - Health Education Communication, Phu Ninh District Medical Center has promoted communication on reproductive health care for adolescents and young people in schools, thereby creating a useful playground, comfortable psychology, helping children to be more confident when going to school. Comrade Trinh Xuan Toan - Head of the Department of Population - Health Education Communication said: Every year, the Department organizes training and regular communication skills training for population officers in communes, expands communication by age group and extracurricular activities for the whole school. In 2024, coordinate with schools to organize 10 sessions of sex education and reproductive health care for adolescents, attracting more than 500 students to participate in many forms such as dramatization, Q&A, leaflet distribution... Through the evaluation of schools, this is a useful, realistic and necessary activity, helping teachers and parents better understand the psychology of young people, thereby having appropriate educational methods, contributing to improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning.

To raise awareness of reproductive health care for adolescents and young people, the Provincial Department of Population and Family Planning has implemented many action programs such as coordinating with the Education sector to increase the provision of information and knowledge on gender, gender equality, gender imbalance at birth, reproductive health, and comprehensive sexual health for adolescents and young people through extracurricular activities in schools.

In 2024, the Department organized 17 training courses for population officers at all levels in the province. Along with that, 55 district-level population propagandists, 225 commune-level population officials and 3,109 residential population collaborators are all active propagandists in adolescent/teen reproductive health care activities. Friendly corners in schools, friendly clinics at medical facilities, and clubs for mothers with children of adolescent/teen age operate effectively, with 117 clubs with 4,440 members participating, contributing to raising awareness about gender and reproductive health for adolescents/teenagers.

According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Phuong - Head of the Provincial Department of Population and Family Planning, in 2024, the Department coordinated with other sectors to organize 607 pre-marital health consultations for adolescents/young people such as life skills education, prevention of unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, skills to prevent sexual abuse, maintaining the operation of the hotline "Consulting on happiness for every family". At the same time, providing documents, communication, online exchanges; organizing reproductive health and gender counseling in schools with 197 sessions for over 31,000 teachers and students of secondary and high schools, contributing to improving knowledge and skills, reducing unwanted pregnancies and abortions among adolescents/young people...

Communication and care activities for adolescent reproductive health are important, demonstrating the concern and sense of responsibility of all levels, sectors as well as the social community, helping the future generation of the country to have basic knowledge and certain life skills before entering adulthood and becoming useful citizens for society.
