Waiting for Ronaldo to extend his record, Belgium is not allowed to lose

Waiting for surprises from Georgia

Georgia and the Czech Republic are both aiming for victory when they meet in the second match of Group F, EURO 2024 at 11pm on June 22. After both were defeated in their opening matches, neither can afford to lose again.

Czech Republic aims to win 3 points against Georgia

Georgia lost 3-1 to Türkiye in their opening game despite Willy Sagnol’s side having 14 shots on target. Only two teams in the history of the EURO have lost their first group game and still progressed – Slovakia and Northern Ireland in 2016 – so Georgia must now try to become the third team.

Before meeting the group's strongest team, Portugal, in the final match, they will again look to Mikautadze and star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for inspiration against the Czech Republic, who were also defeated by Portugal in their opening match. Although they are considered the weakest team at EURO 2024, just 1 point against the Czech Republic will keep their dream of reaching the round of 16 alive.

Meanwhile, a draw would also keep the Czech Republic’s hopes alive, but they would be out of luck if they were defeated if Türkiye do not lose to Portugal in the same match. In their 2-1 defeat to Portugal, the Czech Republic made fewer passes than any other team in their first match at EURO 2024, and had just eight touches in the opposition penalty area.

Runners-up in 1996 and quarter-finalists in two of the last three EUROs they have played, the Czech Republic have lost seven times in the group stage since the 2008 finals. Ivan Hasek’s side will need to show a more positive side against Georgia. And coming into Germany on the back of five straight wins, playing against more modest opposition will be their chance.

Portugal continues to face challenges

To secure the top spot in Group F and advance to the round of 16 of EURO 2024, Türkiye and Portugal will aim to win 3 points when they face each other in the second match taking place at 11pm on June 22.

Ronaldo and his teammates continue to face challenges

Both teams picked up maximum points from their opening matches, with Türkiye topping the table thanks to a 3-1 win over Georgia, while Portugal came from behind to beat the Czech Republic 2-1. Türkiye entered EURO 2024 on a five-match winless streak in all competitions, but they have made a flying start in Germany.

However, Vincenzo Montella's team will face a big challenge against Portugal. Türkiye have lost only two of their last 15 matches and have never beaten Portugal in three meetings (all of which they lost and scored no goals). Meanwhile, after qualifying for EURO 2024 with a perfect record of 10 wins, Portugal struggled in their opening Group F match when the Czech Republic unexpectedly took the lead midway through the second half.

The 2016 Euro champions then took all three points thanks to a stunning 92nd-minute strike from substitute Francisco Conceicao. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe broke Euro records in a memorable win over the Czech Republic and coach Roberto Martinez was pleased with his players in the opening game. Portugal have kept just one clean sheet in their last six games, a concern for Martinez. However, Ronaldo and his team-mates are confident of victory, having beaten Türkiye on all six occasions.

Belgium must brace itself against Romania

Belgium will have to focus all their energy on the clash with Romania in the third match of Group E, which will take place at 2am on June 23. Coach Domenico Tedesco's team was surprisingly defeated 0-1 by Slovakia in the opening match, while Romania beat Ukraine 3-0 and they can soon qualify for the round of 16 if they win against Belgium.

The Belgian team does not want to return home early.

Belgium's defeat to Slovakia is considered a shock at EURO 2024. And the "Red Devils" need to adjust their aim in finishing and sudden changes in attacks. Ending a 15-match unbeaten streak, the Belgian team will have a hard time against a very excited opponent. Few people thought of a 3-goal gap against Ukraine, but Romania showed that they can do it with reasonable tactics and solid defense.

A win at the RheinEnergieStadion would see Romania through to the knockout stages, but Iordanescu’s side will have to be wary of their star-studded opponents. Indeed, having lost just one of their last 16 games, Romania have kept three clean sheets ahead of their clash with Belgium, who they also beat 2-1 in a 2012 friendly in their last meeting.
