President Luong Cuong receives Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the occasion of attending the High-level General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States, on September 22, President Luong Cuong received Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive progress in bilateral relations in recent times, in which Austria has continuously been one of Vietnam's top 10 trade partners in Europe and Vietnam is Austria's important trade partner in Southeast Asia.

Affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to develop the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Austria, the President emphasized that economy , trade and investment are one of the important pillars of bilateral relations; at the same time, he suggested that Austria increase investment in Vietnam in areas where Austria has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as infrastructure, renewable energy, and green transformation.

President Luong Cuong also asked the Austrian Parliament to soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and to have a positive voice so that the European Commission can remove the IUU “yellow card” for Vietnamese seafood. The President affirmed that Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to help Austria access the potential ASEAN market.

Sharing the opinions of President Luong Cuong, Austrian Prime Minister Christian Stocker expressed his deep impression of the country and people of Vietnam, congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic development achievements in recent years, and affirmed that Austria considers Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia.

The Austrian Prime Minister agreed that the two sides need to increase high-level delegation exchanges and all-level delegation exchanges, create more favorable conditions for businesses and localities of the two countries to connect and cooperate, as well as further promote cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science and technology, education and training, tourism, people-to-people exchange and other potential areas.

In the spirit of political trust, the two leaders agreed to strengthen coordination and support each other at multilateral forums.
