Ms. Truong Phuong Hanh, a teacher at Chuong Duong Primary School, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City - who was accused by parents of asking for money to buy laptops, was also accused of selling food in class to students.

More than 20 parents of class 4/3, together filed a petition to the principal of this school, stating that through their children’s innocent stories, Ms. Hanh sold food and drinks such as sausages, instant noodles, and soft drinks in the classroom. Students studied and ate at the same time; or sometimes she opened YouTube, students sat below to do homework, while she sat above to eat.

Responding to VietNamNet reporters about this issue, Ms. Hanh said that her house is far from school, so there are times when she arrives at school without having breakfast. Therefore, she always has a few packs of instant noodles on hand so that on days when she doesn’t have time to eat breakfast, she can go to school to cook.

“Students saw that and said, 'Teacher, I'm so hungry, please cook me a pack of noodles.' A box of noodles and a sausage cost 20,000 VND. Students who have money can pay, those who don't can't. Many parents bring their children to school at 6:30 a.m. without eating anything, so the teacher and students can eat together. I prepare the food myself, if the children want it, I cook it for them. If they have money, they can pay me, those who don't have money can't. I also give it to those who don't have any money,” Ms. Hanh shared.

Currently, Ms. Truong Phuong Hanh, homeroom teacher of class 4/3, head of grade 4, is temporarily suspended from work for 15 days. The reason is to verify and clarify the complaint, stabilize the situation of parents and students while considering disciplinary action. In recent days, Ms. Hanh's request for money from parents to buy a laptop has caused a stir in public opinion.
