Former OpenAI leader reveals shocking information about CEO Sam Altman

According to TechSpot , the technology world is shocked by the news that a former member of the OpenAI board of directors revealed the reason behind the dismissal of CEO Sam Altman last year. Accordingly, Altman was accused of creating a toxic work environment, frequently lying and having psychological abuse.

Former board members Helen Toner and Tasha McCauley said they lost confidence in Altman after discovering multiple incidents involving his lack of transparency and dishonesty in communications. Notably, Altman hid his ownership of the OpenAI Startup fund from the board and misled the company about its safety procedures.

After his firing, Altman briefly joined Microsoft to lead a new AI team, but just two days later, he returned to OpenAI under a new board, a move that sparked controversy and led investors to threaten to sue the company.

Toner said Altman had a history of problems, having been fired from Y Combinator and his startup Loopt, where the management team apparently asked the board to fire Sam twice for deceitful and disruptive behavior.

Some OpenAI employees have spoken out in support of Altman's return, fearing what the future of OpenAI will be like without Altman, but others have expressed concerns about the toxic work environment he has created, with some employees even fearing retaliation.

This month, OpenAI senior safety researcher Jan Leike resigned, saying “safety culture and processes have been put behind flashy products.”
