The 1st Division Memorial Hall in Tan Hoa

At the end of 2023, the inauguration ceremony of the Monument to Honor the Heroic Division of the Southern Liberation Army in the Southeast was held quite solemnly in Con Tran Hamlet, Tan Hoa Commune, Tay Ninh Province. The Monument was built on an area of ​​over 1,000 square meters. Including items: Monument, memorial board, yard,... with a total construction area of ​​over 300 square meters as a reminder of the heroic achievements of Division 1 during the resistance years.

Heroic imprint

Division 1 was established in 1965. With the name Farm 1, in the Central Highlands, the Division achieved glorious feats in the Plei Me campaign, Dak To I campaign, Sa Thay campaign,... In August 1968, Division 1 entered the Southeast and was called Construction Site 1, continuing to achieve many feats. The Division fought 803 battles, eliminating 28,793 enemies, with typical battles such as Dong Pan, Vo Tung, Suoi Day,...

Monument honoring the heroic feats of the 1st Division of the Southern Liberation Army in the Southeast region will be inaugurated in November 2023.

In the area of ​​Con Tran hamlet alone, on the night of November 13 to 14, 1968, the 1st Division destroyed the base of 2 mixed battalions of the 1st US Division. This base had a dense defense system with 36 tanks, armored vehicles, 5 layers of barbed wire fences with mines, 40 bunkers arranged in 2 circles in a rake-tooth pattern.

At exactly 11pm, our artillery opened fire simultaneously, a series of enemy bunkers and tanks caught fire. After a moment of panic, the enemy fought back fiercely. Demolition squads and engineers overcame the rain of bullets, broke through the fences, and opened the doors for the infantry to charge.

The fierce battle lasted for nearly 6 hours. As a result, the Regiment basically destroyed nearly 2 American battalions, destroyed 24 tanks, and shot down 18 helicopters. The battle not only dealt a blow to the American enemy in the Southeast battlefield but also demonstrated the bravery and steely will of the officers and soldiers of Division 1.

Introducing the Monument, Con Tran Hamlet Chief Lam Oon said: “Thanks to this project, people can better visualize the fighting tradition of their fathers and brothers as well as the peace that had to be exchanged for the blood and bones of heroes and martyrs. Thanks to the bravery and sacrifice of our brothers and sisters, we can have a full life like today.”

New vitality

If Tan Hoa during the resistance war was once a fierce battlefield, a place that marked many heroic pages of history, today, this land is taking on a new look with full vitality.

The material and spiritual life of the people is increasingly improved. Cultural, sports and artistic activities are developing vigorously, attracting a large number of people to participate. Social security work is focused on, preferential policies for people with meritorious services and poor households are implemented promptly and effectively.

Currently, the commune has only 14 poor households, accounting for 0.23%, and in Con Tran hamlet alone, there are no poor households. This is a testament to the outstanding efforts of the local Party Committee and government in economic development and caring for the people's lives.

Opposite the Monument of Honor is the Ethnic Culture House, a place for cultural activities of ethnic minorities in the area. The cultural house campus also has a children's playground, where children in Con Tran hamlet often gather to play every afternoon.

Health and education have also achieved many positive results. Facilities, equipment and medical staff basically meet the needs of primary medical examination and treatment of the people. Maternal and child health care and family planning are implemented synchronously, the rate of children under 1 year old fully vaccinated every year is always over 95%. The natural population growth rate is controlled below 1%, contributing to improving the quality of life and human resources in the locality.

According to Vice Chairman of Tan Hoa Commune People's Committee Vu Van Minh, the changes in Tan Hoa today are thanks to the solidarity and unity in the entire political system as well as the close, regular and close relationship between the Party, government and people.

“The locality always focuses on creating favorable conditions for people to actively participate in giving opinions on Party and government building, participating in social supervision and criticism as well as implementing democracy well at the grassroots level, following the motto “people know, people discuss, people do, people inspect, people supervise, people benefit” - Mr. Vu Van Minh affirmed.

Looking back on the past, Tan Hoa has demonstrated the strength of solidarity, unyielding will and aspiration to rise up. The monument honoring the achievements of Division 1 is not only a symbol of heroic memories but also a spiritual support for the people of Tan Hoa to continue building a rich and beautiful homeland, worthy of the heroic tradition of the revolutionary land./.
