According to 7News TV channel, the South Australian education department hopes that the Vietnamese students who mysteriously disappeared in Adelaide will call the police to report their situation.

"The disappearance is concerning to those involved and we hope the students will contact police to ensure their well-being," the South Australian education department said.

Previously, South Australian State Police (SAPOL) began investigating the case of five Vietnamese students who disappeared without a trace in Adelaide between December 2023 and January 2024.

According to 7News TV channel, all five Vietnamese teenagers are said to be studying at Hamilton High School in the suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia.

Each person disappeared for a different period of time, with one person remaining unaccounted for for four weeks.

The most recent missing person is 17-year-old Sunnie Nguyen, last seen at her homestay in South Plympton (suburb of Adelaide) on January 8.

SAPOL said police units are working together to locate the teenagers. The missing cases are being handled separately and police believe they are not related.

On January 11, police announced that they had located one of the missing students. However, the whereabouts of the other four remain unknown.

"All current lines of inquiry suggest some of the children may have gone interstate and are still there. There is no information to suggest they are in any danger," an Australian police spokesman said.

Police believe some of these Vietnamese students may have gone to other states and are safe.

Sunnie Nguyen's host family told police she appeared happy in Adelaide and had no reason to flee. Her visa was still valid for another three years.

Australian media reported that Ms. Zervaas then tried to contact Sunnie Nguyen, but her phone was turned off and her Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok accounts were also deleted.

Lien Nguyen-Navas, representative of the Vietnamese Women's Association in Adelaide, "hopes that this is just a case of 17-year-olds wanting to get together somewhere and not let anyone know because they are on school break."
