Salman Chowdhury will officially enroll at Harvard University this fall. His achievements have attracted attention because Salman did not hire an admissions consultant or participate in expensive enrichment programs.
Salman’s parents are Bangladeshi immigrants with low education, they work low-income jobs in the US. However, when sharing with the US media about the secret to being admitted to top universities in the US, Salman affirmed that it was the way his parents raised him that helped him have initial success in his journey to conquer knowledge.

Salman believes that his parents have a simple but consistent way of raising children, focusing on helping him develop in a balanced and harmonious way.
Among the schools he was accepted to, Salman was also awarded a full scholarship to the University of Washington. Many other schools also offered him scholarships based on his academic performance and extracurricular activities in high school.
However, the thing that Salman is most proud of when sharing with the American media comes from the 3 things his parents taught him since he was a child.
Prioritize eating and sleeping regularly and maintaining good health.
Salman said his parents are very concerned about his eating habits, sleeping habits and health. Although his parents do not have specialized knowledge, they understand that eating and sleeping regularly is essential for effective learning.
Every morning, my father wakes up early to drive me to school, instead of letting me go by bus. This allows me to comfortably nap for about an hour on the bus. My mother also gets up at 4:30 am to cook a nutritious breakfast for me.
His parents always tried to arrange their work so that when he finished school, they would be home as soon as possible. The efforts of his parents throughout Salman's journey to adulthood made him feel cared for and had a solid foundation in life.
Encourage your child to try new opportunities.
Salman said he initially focused only on his studies, but it was his parents who encouraged him to join clubs and extracurricular activities.
“My parents did not have the opportunity to participate in various extracurricular activities. So they told me not to miss the opportunity and to try participating in various extracurricular activities organized in high school,” Salman said.
After trying out a few clubs at PCTI STEM Academy High School (New Jersey, USA), Salman quickly became one of the most active students participating in extracurricular activities at the school.
I join the robotics club, a club for young people who are passionate about business, and I also actively contribute to school initiatives when participating in several other clubs.
Salman’s most notable achievement was leading a student club passionate about aeronautics and space to design a rover that could operate on the Moon. The group was then invited to the NASA Johnson Space Center (USA) to present to NASA engineers and astronauts.
“My parents taught me that talent can be formed and trained through studying, but opportunities are what help talent develop its value. Therefore, I have to constantly find opportunities for myself,” Salman said.
Teach children to live ethically and purposefully
As uneducated immigrants, Salman's parents raised him with the motto: success is not just about achievements, but also about developing good character.
Salman's parents always encouraged their son to be curious and inquisitive about the world around him. In addition, they needed to maintain and develop honesty, gratitude, and perseverance.
It was his parents' upbringing that made Salman gradually discover that he had a special love for natural sciences , because he realized that the world around him was very beautiful and there were many things for him to explore.
“The values my parents taught me influenced everything I did, from the way I studied to the way I lived. When I needed letters of recommendation for my college applications, my teachers didn’t just talk about my achievements, they also talked a lot about me as a person. Really, all the good things I have come from the way my parents raised me,” Salman added.
Salman said his biggest goal in life is to repay his parents for raising him. After that, he wants to repay the community and those who have helped him in his studies and life.
