Enterprises 'order' training: College students have jobs right after graduation

When many professions are facing a shortage of labor, colleges have proactively cooperated with businesses to implement the 'training order' model. With this approach, students are not only guaranteed employment after graduation but also equipped with practical skills, contributing to the supply of highly skilled human resources to the market.

Enterprises directly participate in teaching and recruitment

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho, Director of the Consulting - Admissions Center, Saigon College of Technology - Tourism , said that the school is cooperating with more than 50 businesses in many fields such as tourism, hotels, automotive engineering technology, information technology, etc. According to Mr. Huu Tho, these are industries with great demand for human resources and at the same time attract a large number of students.

Specifically, tourism students practice at large hotels such as Muong Thanh, Caravelle, Rex, Grand or Adora... In the automotive industry, the school cooperates with Hyundai Truong Chinh, Ford Pho Quang, Samco, Isuzu An Lac... to organize practical training. "The school's motto is to ensure job opportunities for students after graduation, while continuously updating the program to meet business output standards," Mr. Tho emphasized.

At Saigon Tourism College, Master Ngo Thi Quynh Xuan, Principal of the school, said that the cooperation between the school and businesses does not stop at introducing jobs but also extends to teaching. “Hotel department heads, F&B managers or tour guides from Saigontourist, Vietravel, Hoa Binh … all directly teach classes. From there, students can both study and become candidates right in school,” shared Master Xuan.

Not only the service sector, the engineering and technology sectors are also promoting training according to orders. Master Nguyen Xuan Toan, Vice Principal of the Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology, said that the school is cooperating with hundreds of businesses to train in the fields of information technology, electricity, auto mechanics and some economic sectors, including cooperation withFPT Telecom. "Students participating in this program will be committed to 100% employment by businesses after graduation," said Master Toan.

Over the years, Cao Thang Technical College and its long-term partner enterprises have always tried to diversify cooperation and connection activities in compiling programs and textbooks; organizing internships for students at enterprises; organizing specialized seminars and academic competitions for students; organizing business connection and job introduction days; and linking training and fostering for employees of enterprises.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City International College has switched to a new model: lecturers and students directly solve practical "problems" for businesses, instead of just sending students for internships. According to Master Nguyen Dang Ly, Principal of the school, this approach helps students hone their practical skills, while businesses receive real economic value from the school's lecturers and students.

Shortage of human resources in many industries

Despite hundreds of businesses signing cooperation agreements, many colleges still cannot meet recruitment needs. This shows the shortage of human resources in many professions.

According to Master Ngo Thi Quynh Xuan, currently, the number of students at the school is not enough to introduce to businesses. Therefore, the tourism and service industry continues to be in a state of "thirst" for human resources.

Master Nguyen Dang Ly said that although businesses have placed many orders, there are not enough students to supply. “There is a shortage in every field, from nursing, pharmacy, business administration, hotel and restaurant, kitchen, graphics, accounting… In particular, the refraction field, although only a short-term training of 6 months, attracts hundreds of students, with a starting salary of about 15 million VND/month,” Master Ly added.

Dr. Dinh Van De, acting principal of Ly Tu Trong College in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the school is currently training in industrial electricity according to orders from Dat Vinh Tien Company Limited and HaoHua Company Limited - Vietnam. In addition, the school is also collaborating with Glasgow City College (UK) to implement 5 majors: mechanical engineering technology, industrial electricity, computer network administration, computer programming and English.

In particular, the industries of tailoring, sewing, and fashion are always in a state of shortage of human resources. Enterprises are ready to “place orders” and commit to jobs, but the number of people registering to study is quite small. This is a paradox that shows that the labor market is in great need but students are not interested.

According to Dr. De, the school is implementing a training program that ensures 70% of the time is spent on practice, of which at least 40% is spent studying at businesses. At the same time, businesses are also invited to participate in developing training programs, output standards, teaching some subjects, organizing specialized reports, supporting students in participating in vocational competitions... "The goal is for 100% of students to have jobs or continue studying after graduation," Dr. De affirmed.
