Vietnam Team: Losing heavily is fine, as long as there are lessons to... grow

The Vietnamese team brought their weakest squad to face 11 foreign players in the best condition of Nam Dinh Club, so defeat was obvious.

Vietnam team received valuable lessons

The friendly match with Nam Dinh Club is a typical example of the opinion that there is no need to go far, just by wandering around V-League, the Vietnamese team can also find a very strong "blue team".

Nam Dinh FC owns 11 foreign players (the most in V-League), among them, many faces have affirmed their class such as Caio Cesar, midfielder who was in the typical squad last season, Romulo da Silva, Lucas Alves, Kyle Hudlin... Not to mention, the team also has Vietnamese-American defender Kevin Pham Ba, and is also missing Xuan Son due to injury treatment.

With the foreign players that Nam Dinh Club brought in to serve the V-League, National Cup, AFC Champions League 2 and ASEAN Club Championship, the Vietnamese team had to face a European-American class team under the guise of a V-League Club. Not only Nam Dinh, strong teams like Buriram United (Thailand) or JDT (Malaysia) when playing AFC Champions League Elite also launched a squad with 9 or 10 foreign players. Simply because the quality of foreign players worth hundreds of thousands, even millions of USD is always superior to local players.

Against a team of foreign players, it was inevitable that the Vietnamese team would lose. It was commendable that in the first half, when acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh put his key players in the starting lineup, the team only lost by 1 goal. The breakdown happened in the second half, when the new players, or players who rarely played, had a chance to show their skills.

For goalkeeper Van Chuan, defenders Quang Kiet, Hoang Phuc, Van Toi, midfielder Hoang Anh, Du Hoc, Van Vi, Viet Hung, or striker Gia Hung... having to face the all-Western squad of Nam Dinh Club is too much.

The aforementioned faces are inexperienced in international tournaments, rarely having to face 11 strong, solid and fast players. The image of Quang Kiet "suffocating" when facing Kyle Hudlin, or Hoang Anh and Viet Hung being overwhelmed by a Western midfield is an example.

At the same time, with pieces that rarely played together, the Vietnamese team played disorganized, lacked strategy, and had no consistent tactics.

However, looking at it from a positive perspective, the new recruits of the Vietnam national team need to... win or lose, even lose heavily, to learn a lesson. Summoning many new players and putting them on the field in a match so difficult that even the key players have to struggle, is probably the coaching staff's intention in using people.

In a tough match, against a superior opponent, players with enough courage will show their qualities. In yesterday's match, there were faces who played hard (despite being overwhelmed), such as the cases of midfielders Hoang Anh and Viet Hung.

Positions began to swap, rotate personnel and compete to create a new look.

Keep up the good work

As the globalization trend has helped teams like Malaysia and Indonesia to be filled with players of European and South American origin, Southeast Asian football is no longer the story of small, skillful, agile players that Thailand and Vietnam have always been the leaders of.

At present, even at the AFF Cup, the Vietnamese team may have to face teams playing in the Netherlands, Spain, France or Italy. If they do not want to continue to be overwhelmed and lose heavily, the Vietnamese team needs to play friendly matches with opponents of equal caliber.

After the defeat against Nam Dinh FC, the new players of the Vietnamese national team will compete with Hanoi Police FC (CAHN CLUB). The current National Super Cup champion is even an upgraded version of Nam Dinh FC. They have fewer foreign players, but their playing style is more smooth and cohesive, the midfield holds the ball well, while the forward line with Leo Artur and Alan Grafite made waves in the Southeast Asian playground last season.

Another difficult challenge, forcing both old and new players to try their best to face it. The risk of losing is very high, but in the midst of difficulties, the Vietnamese team needs to persevere in fighting, experimenting and not be afraid to apply new playing styles, boldly holding the ball to deploy the game, and coordinating to find space.

Every defeat is an experience. Coach Kim and his team have to learn a lot before they can "break" anything.
