The victim was Mr. Bui Van Vien (60 years old, residing in Dong Tien 6 hamlet, Dong Tam commune, Dong Nai province).
Previously, on the afternoon of September 4, after drinking alcohol, Mr. Vien was allowed to sit next to an abandoned well near his house. At around 6 p.m. the same day, his family saw Mr. Vien sitting near the mouth of the well, staggering and suddenly falling into the well.

At the scene, the area where the victim fell was a well more than 20m deep, abandoned for many years.
Rescue forces determined that the victim was still alive but in a very dangerous health condition, starting to lose consciousness, and his limbs could still move but were very weak.

Authorities deployed a tripod, combined with a pulley system to bring officers, soldiers, equipment and breathing tanks down the deep well to help bring the victim to safety.
