German police said members of the “Last Generation” group staged sit-ins at 21 locations across the capital, causing serious traffic jams during the morning rush hour and affecting many highway exits and city streets.
Some protesters used a special adhesive mixture to stick themselves to the road, and it took Berlin authorities a long time to disperse the protesters.
According to a spokesman for the German police force, more than 500 police officers were mobilized to disperse the protests.
When necessary, police will immediately take measures to resolve illegal street blockades, ensuring smooth traffic operations.
Meanwhile, protesters could face criminal proceedings for their actions.
On September 17, members of the “Last Generation” group sprayed orange and red paint on the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Police made 14 arrests and are investigating the individuals for vandalism.
