Gamuda won the bid for the MRT project in Taiwan (China), with a total investment of 4.3 billion RM.

Gamuda Berhad (Gamuda) - Malaysia's leading engineering and construction group has just won the bid for the Xizhi Donghu MRT project (urban railway project) in Taiwan (China) worth RM4.3 billion (Malaysian ringgit), equivalent to NT$31.9 billion.

This is the seventh major infrastructure project Gamuda has implemented in Taiwan, consolidating the group's position in the international market.

The project was awarded by the New Taipei City government (Taiwan) to an unincorporated joint venture between Gamuda (75%) and two local partners, MiTAC Information Technology Corp (15%) and Dong Pi Co Limited (10%).

Accordingly, Gamuda will undertake most of the work with a contract value of up to 3.2 billion RM (23.97 billion NTD), equivalent to about 18,656 billion VND (calculated according to the exchange rate of the first half of October 2024, specifically 1 RM equals 5,830 VND).

The Xizhi Donghu MRT urban railway design and construction project is expected to be completed in 7 years, with main items including: 5.78km of viaduct and track, 6 elevated stations, and essential systems such as trains, power supply, signals, platform gates, communication system, central monitoring, automatic fare collection and maintenance equipment at the depot.

Gamuda representatives said the joint venture is also ready to undertake additional works worth RM10.8 billion (NT$80 billion) when required.

These projects include a maintenance depot for the Xizhi Donghu line and track systems for two extension lines: Keelung Line MRT and Minsheng Line MRT.

The contract value from Gamuda's additional works will be approximately RM8.1 billion (NT$60 billion). These items are expected to be awarded before the completion of the main project, bringing the total value of the entire project to approximately RM15.1 billion.

Regarding the project, a Gamuda representative said: "This is our biggest achievement in Taiwan since entering the market 20 years ago. This success is a testament to Gamuda's ability to win large-scale projects in competitive international markets, and reflects the strong confidence that Taiwanese authorities have in our expertise and project implementation capabilities."

The Xizhi Donghu MRT project is an important part of New Taipei City's large-scale infrastructure development strategy to meet the growing mobility needs of urban residents.

Gamuda's success in Taiwan began with the award-winning Kaohsiung MRT Orange Line project in 2008 (contracted in 2002).

Since then, Gamuda has played a key role in developing Taiwan’s modern transport infrastructure, including the RM2.13 billion Taoyuan Metro Line projects in 2022 and the RM3.45 billion Kaohsiung MRT Yellow Line in 2023.

In addition, the group also completed and handed over the Guantang sea bridge in October 2023, and is deploying the sea dike at Taipei Port and the 161kV underground power transmission line from Songshu to Guanfeng.
