Meet the valedictorian of English at Lam Son High School for the Gifted

With a score of 9.2/10, Le Minh Duc - a student of Van Ha Secondary School (Thieu Hoa) has excelled in becoming the valedictorian of English in the entrance exam to grade 10 of Lam Son Specialized High School, school year 2023-2024.

These days, in the house of Le Minh Duc's family, in sub-area 3, Thieu Hoa town (Thieu Hoa district), there is always the sound of laughter. The congratulations from relatives, neighbors, and friends for the valedictorian of the 10th grade English major at Lam Son High School for the Gifted multiplies the joy of the whole family.

Since childhood, he has been "passed on" the spirit of learning from his father and mother. Working in the education sector, Mr. Le Duy Quang and Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet - Duc's parents, have trained their son to study seriously and independently, but without any constraints and especially never put pressure on him before each exam.

“My son has a passion for reading. Since the age of 3, he has been able to read books and stories fluently when studying with his brother. As he grew older, he began to love English. He listened to his brother read, then read along; gradually he got into the habit of opening English programs to practice listening. Seeing his passion for this foreign language, his family let him study with teachers at school, then study at an English center in Thanh Hoa city,” said Mr. Le Duy Quang, Duc’s father.

With his ability and passion, Le Minh Duc soon set a goal of taking the entrance exam to the English class of Lam Son High School to have the opportunity to accumulate knowledge and develop his abilities and strengths. The journey to becoming the valedictorian of a prestigious high school in the province is not easy. Sharing about his learning method, Duc said: “In addition to studying with teachers in class, I often study through online programs on the internet, Youtube channels; regularly watch movies, read books and stories in English. With English, I know that if I want to be good at it, I have to listen well, if I want to write well, I have to read a lot, I pay attention to practicing listening, reading and speaking skills. I participate in many competitions and exchanges organized by the school and centers.”

Duc is an excellent student for many years.

Throughout his 9 years of study, Duc has been an excellent student. In the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years, he consecutively won second prize in English in the provincial excellent student competition. In the entrance exam to Lam Son High School for the Gifted in the 2023-2024 school year, he scored 44.2 points, including 8 points in Math, 8 points in Literature, 9.8 points in English and 9.2 points in English, being the valedictorian of the English major.

Mr. Nguyen Lenh Dong, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thieu Hoa district, said: This is the third consecutive year that Van Ha Secondary School has had a valedictorian in the 10th grade entrance exam for Lam Son Specialized High School. In the 2021-2022 school year, it was Nguyen Lenh Hoang, valedictorian of Mathematics. In the 2022-2023 school year, it was Do Quan Anh, valedictorian of Physics and also valedictorian of Lam Son Specialized High School, and this year it was Le Minh Duc, valedictorian of English, a subject that is considered a "weak" subject for students in rural areas.

Teacher Dong as well as Duc's family and friends hope that with his love for English and his enthusiastic learning spirit, Duc will continue to shine and assert himself, reaping more success on the path to conquering the pinnacle of knowledge.
