According to The Verge , Generative AI by iStock builds on Getty's first foray into AI image generation, Generative AI by Getty Images. The difference is that the image platform from iStock - a stock photo service owned by Getty - supports individual users rather than Getty Images' multi-user enterprise solution.

Generative AI by iStock charges $14.99/100 prompts

Trained using Nvidia's Picasso model, Generative AI by iStock only learns from Getty's creative library and iStock's stock photo library. It doesn't draw training data from Getty's editorial image library to prevent it from generating known brands or personalities.

Getty product manager Grant Farhall said Generative AI by iStock is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses that need to find stock photos. According to Farhall, it allows users to have a more efficient workflow and get more accurate photos they need, even things they can’t do with a camera.

Farhall used the example of someone searching for photos to illustrate climate change: They could tell iStock’s Generative AI to create an image of penguins walking down the street. Instead of hiring a photographer and finding a group of penguins, the AI could do it for them.

The service will charge $14.99 for 100 prompts, with each prompt generating four images. Contributors whose content is used to train the model can participate in a revenue-sharing program, according to Getty Images.

Generative AI by iStock will also soon get Inpainting and Outpainting features, Getty spokesman Alexander Lazarou said. Inpainting lets users mask out an area of an image and then fill it in with a person or object from a text prompt. Outpainting, meanwhile, expands the photo to different aspect ratios and fills in those new areas.
