Mr. Pham Van Nam, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province, said that through the actual survey, currently, in 7 border communes including: Ia Pnôn, Ia Puch, Ia Mo, Ia Chia, Ia O, Ia Nan and Ia Dom, there are a total of 14 schools, including: 3 primary and secondary schools, 6 primary schools, 4 secondary schools and 1 high school. The total number of students studying at these schools is 10,277, of which 5,616 are ethnic minority students, accounting for 54.65%, with a total of 297 classes. The boarding demand in these communes is up to 7,134 students.

In 2025, the Department of Education and Training proposed to invest in upgrading two schools: Phu Dong Primary and Secondary School (Ia Puch Commune) and Nguyen Van Troi Primary and Secondary School (Ia Mo Commune) into inter-level boarding schools (Primary and Secondary). These are two schools with a high proportion of ethnic minority students (over 74.73%) and students who have to go to school far away (from 8 to 20 km). The total investment is expected to be about 100 billion VND, to be put into use for the 2026-2027 school year.

For the remaining 5 communes (Ia O, Ia Chia, Ia Pnôn, Ia Dom and Ia Nan), due to limited land funds, the construction of new boarding schools cannot be implemented immediately. The Department of Education and Training will advise the Provincial People's Committee to direct departments, branches and local authorities to coordinate in planning work, ensuring suitable land funds to establish new boarding schools, expected to start construction from 2026.

Specifically, the student population and boarding needs in the communes are as follows: Ia O commune has 67 classes, 2,208 students, of which boarding needs are 880 students; Ia Chia commune has 53 classes with 1,591 boarding students; Ia Pnôn commune has 30 classes with 1,038 boarding students; Ia Dom commune has 47 classes with 1,700 boarding students; Ia Nan commune has 62 classes (17 high school classes), 2,335 students (810 high school students), of which boarding needs are 1,525 students.

Regarding the new construction investment plan, the Department of Education and Training said that this week it will coordinate with the commune authorities to conduct field surveys, make investment estimates and build according to the standards of multi-level boarding schools for ethnic minorities. It is expected to report to the Ministry of Education and Training and the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee as soon as possible for effective implementation according to the Prime Minister's direction.
