Gia Lai: Overflow culvert is heavily flooded, hundreds of households in Mo Nang 2 village are isolated.

Heavy rains caused the Mo Nang 2 village culvert (Ia Pa commune, Gia Lai province) to be flooded since noon on August 29, isolating hundreds of households for nearly a day. By this morning, August 30, the water had receded but travel was still difficult.

Flooded underground of Mo Nang 2 village

On the afternoon of August 30, Mr. Le Tien Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia Pa commune, Gia Lai province, said that the locality is waiting for the water to completely recede to reinforce the overflow channel through Mo Nang 2 village (Ia Pa commune) so that people can travel safely.

According to Mr. Le Tien Manh, due to the impact of heavy rain, the spillway of Mo Nang 2 village was deeply flooded from noon on August 29 to 10 a.m. on August 30. The flooded spillway caused the soil and rocks in the spillway to slide away, isolating the villagers from 341 households.

During the time the tunnel was flooded and isolated, the commune directed forces to guard both ends, not allowing people to pass through to ensure safety. In addition, the commune closely monitored the situation and was ready to provide necessities if people needed them.

By 10am this morning, the water had receded and the people were no longer isolated. However, the water is still deep, and people can only wade through the water, not by motorbike.

“Because the water is still flooded, the commune is waiting for the water to recede so that it can mobilize local forces to dump rocks and soil and reinforce the underground to help people move around more conveniently. In the long term, the commune has proposed investing in an underground upgrade project to ensure traffic flow for people,” said Mr. Le Tien Manh.
