Rice price today August 27: Market stagnant, raw rice continues to decrease

Rice prices today are generally stable, domestic transactions are quiet, and export prices remain high.

Domestic rice prices on August 27

The rice market in the Mekong Delta continues to be quiet today. Export prices of raw rice have fallen sharply, with some varieties falling below VND8,000/kg. Meanwhile, fresh rice and retail rice remain stable.

Rice price developments

According to the update from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang, the price of OM 5451 rice (fresh) fluctuates at 5,900 - 6,000 VND/kg. The varieties Dai Thom 8, OM 18 and Nang Hoa 9 remain at around 6,000 - 6,200 VND/kg. IR 50404 rice (fresh) is purchased at around 5,700 - 5,900 VND/kg.

In many localities, farmers are selling autumn-winter rice, but new purchases are low and traders are trading sparsely. In Dong Thap and An Giang , transactions have almost stagnated, causing prices to weaken. Tay Ninh, Can Tho and Ca Mau areas have recorded small purchases and sales, with prices basically stable.

Rice prices fell sharply

Some types of raw rice for export decreased sharply compared to the beginning of the week. CL 555 rice decreased by 400 VND/kg, to 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg. OM 5451 rice decreased by 300 VND/kg, to 7,600 - 7,900 VND/kg. Other types such as IR 504, OM 380 and OM 18 remained around 8,200 - 9,700 VND/kg.

In the retail channel, the common rice price has not changed. Nang Nhen rice is still the highest in the market at 28,000 VND/kg. Regular rice is at 13,000 - 14,000 VND/kg, while fragrant rice such as Huong Lai, Jasmine or Thai rice fluctuates at 16,000 - 22,000 VND/kg.

By-product market

Rice by-products fluctuated slightly. OM 5451 broken rice decreased by 50 VND/kg, to 7,250 - 7,350 VND/kg. Bran fluctuated at 8,000 - 9,000 VND/kg, while rice husk remained at 1,400 - 1,500 VND/kg.

Rice exports

Vietnam’s rice export prices remained unchanged today. According to the Vietnam Food Association, 5% broken rice remained at $399 per ton, continuing to be higher than India ($376 per ton), Pakistan ($355 per ton) and Thailand ($354 per ton).

The Philippines said the 60-day suspension of rice imports from September was only temporary. A memorandum of understanding on rice trade with Vietnam remains in effect, under which Vietnam pledged to supply 1.5-2 million tons of white rice per year to the Philippines.
