Open letter from Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training Nguyen Van Hieu to parents of students at AISVN International School
In an open letter to parents, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that the recent incident at the American International Primary, Middle and High School (AISVN International School) has affected the students' study plans.
Parents contributed more than 28 billion VND
The Department of Education and Training and relevant agencies have been working with the School Board and Principal of AISVN International School to resolve related issues, prioritizing ensuring students' learning rights.
The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City cited data saying that since April 1, 748 parents have agreed to contribute to support the school's operating costs until the end of the 2023-2024 school year. As of 3 p.m. on April 8, parents had contributed a total of VND28,453,374,833.
After paying salaries, social insurance, health insurance for teachers, teaching assistants, foreign and Vietnamese staff working at the school and expenses for teaching activities to operate the school, the current account balance is 9,549,690,741 VND.
AISVN International School cannot continue to operate.
"With our current balance, we estimate that we cannot continue to maintain in-person instruction for all students until the end of the school year," the open letter said.
The head of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training "acknowledged and sincerely thanked parents for their sharing and companionship" and expressed his wish that "parents would join hands with us, agree and contribute to support the school's educational activities so that students' learning in the last months of the 2023-2024 school year is not interrupted".
Open letter to parents of students of AISVN International School
Mr. Hieu also said that the Department of Education and Training has sent a document requesting the investor and the Principal of AISVN International School to confirm the funds contributed by parents and commit to repaying them after restructuring the American International Education Corporation. The Department of Education and Training is working with the school to find a qualified and reputable investor to restructure and organize educational activities in the coming school years.
Also on the afternoon of April 9, parents of students at AISVN International School said they received a letter of thanks and commitment from Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, Chairwoman of the AISVN International School Board, regarding the amount of money parents contributed. Ms. Ut Em pledged: "When the school implements the restructuring plan, this amount will be refunded by the school or converted into shares."
Previously, on the morning of April 8, the Department of Education and Training had a meeting with representatives of 748 parents, receiving a proposal to organize direct teaching for students who have contributed support, while those who have not contributed will study online. This proposal was made due to the situation where students (whose parents have not contributed) mocked those (whose parents have contributed) with the words "not paying but still being able to study". This caused negative psychology for students.
Parents also requested written information about the restructuring period and written confirmation that the amounts they had contributed would be repaid.
