Two PhDs fight over copyright of a book, university speaks up

The book, titled A Unified System Fitness Design: Concepts of Holistic and Inclusive Fitness Framework (abbreviated as USFD), was published by Routledge (UK) on September 24. In Vietnam, on November 24, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang organized the introduction and launch.

In the information sent to the press, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang is introduced as the first Vietnamese author to publish a book in the field of sports science at Routledge Publishing House. Ms. Giang's book USFD was written with her colleague, Dr. Oliver Napila Gomez, who also works at the University of Management and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City.

Then on social networks appeared information that Mr. Oliver Napila Gomez (Philippines), co-author, accused Ms. Giang and affirmed that he was the sole author of this book manuscript.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology, at the time the book USFD was released on September 24, the authors Nguyen Tra Giang and Oliver Napila Gomez were working at the school and there were no disputes arising related to the book before and up to the above mentioned time.

However, due to personal reasons, from October 1, Mr. Oliver Napila Gomez proactively resigned, officially stopping working at the school, then a dispute arose about the book.

“We will carefully review and evaluate the information with the highest responsibility and professionalism. The school is also actively working with relevant parties to obtain as much accurate information as possible. We promote honesty and integrity in science, contributing to the construction and creation of a sustainable educational environment,” the school emphasized.
