On the evening of June 24, many Facebook users in Vietnam were surprised to discover that a series of familiar groups with a "huge" number of members, hundreds of thousands to millions of people, suddenly disappeared without a trace.
Mr. Hoang Hai (residing in Ho Chi Minh City) said that the group "Thanh Review" with more than 2 million members - a place where shopping experiences and product reviews are regularly shared - has disappeared from Facebook.
“This afternoon, I went in and couldn’t find it anymore. There was only a sub-group with more than 75,000 members left. If it was really deleted, it would be a pity, because building a community of millions of people is not easy,” Mr. Hai shared.
Not only “Review Saint”, many other groups also fell into the same situation. According to records, many administrators “cried out loud” when their groups suddenly lost.
A Facebook group was suddenly suspended for unknown reasons.
The owner of a group with nearly 100,000 members said that Facebook suddenly announced the suspension of his account, and he is currently unable to access it. "I don't understand what's going on," he said.
On forums, users warned each other about the situation of "groups disappearing" without reason, and advised administrators to tighten content censorship to avoid violating platform policies.
More worryingly, some people even advertise group recovery “services” at high costs. Many people suspect this is a scam.
Facebook has not yet made any official announcement. However, according to Mr. Le Hong Duc, founder of OneAds Digital Company Limited, the platform may be conducting a large-scale review.
“It is possible that Facebook is updating the system, filtering out fanpages and groups that violate policies. However, in reality, some groups that only post fashion advertisements, without violating anything, are still being removed. The situation is still being monitored to avoid losing groups unexpectedly,” said Mr. Duc.
