According to the second quarter financial report of Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) - a "giant" in the food and beverage industry in the Philippines, the profit before tax, depreciation and interest (EBITDA) of the Highlands Coffee chain in the first half of this year reached more than 1.24 billion pesos, equivalent to more than 550 billion VND, an increase of 5.8% over the same period in 2024.
On average, this coffee chain makes a profit of more than 3 billion VND per day, accounting for about 26% of the coffee and tea profit of Jollibee Foods Corporation.
Currently, Highlands Coffee is the largest coffee chain in Vietnam and has a franchised coffee shop system in the Philippines.
This chain is owned by Viet Thai International Company, founded in 2002 by Mr. David Thai (Thai Phi Diep, born in 1972) - an overseas Vietnamese. In 2011, Jollibee Foods Corporation, through its subsidiary JSF, spent 25 million USD to buy 49% of Viet Thai's shares and 60% of the Hong Kong (China) business division of Viet Thai International Group.

Jollibee agreed to lend Viet Thai International Group an additional $35 million at an interest rate of just 5% (the loan was later repaid in 2016) so that the business could use it for future investments.
According to JFC's 2023 annual report, Highlands Coffee is a brand under SuperFoods Group - a subsidiary of JFS, with Mr. Thai Phi Diep as CEO. By the end of 2023, Jollibee will hold 60% ownership in SuperFoods Group.
Jollibee Foods Corporation was founded by billionaire Tony Tan Caktiong - the 6th richest person in the Philippines, according to Forbes. Jollibee currently operates the largest food service network in the Philippines with more than 1,700 stores worldwide, including fast food chains and the American brand Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
In 2016, the group announced its plan to launch an initial public offering (IPO) of its Highlands Coffee chain on the Vietnamese stock exchange. However, to date, this plan has not been implemented.
By the end of 2022, Reuters reported that this Philippine group plans to sell 10-15% of the Highlands coffee chain for $800 million. Earlier this year, Mr. David Thai shared that he would list Highlands Coffee on the Vietnamese stock market, but the specific time has not been disclosed.
