There are good ways to learn without memorization.
I just finished the 2nd semester final exam of grade 11. As a fairly good student in the class, I personally feel that I worked hard to get such learning and training results. I still feel that if I do not continue to study hard, study actively, study harder, be more flexible, be more creative, to improve myself, I will fall behind.
I know a friend who has a very good memory and a sharp thinking ability so he can learn lessons quickly. I remember a friend of mine in middle school, he was always at the top of the class, when he took exams he often got high scores because he absorbed most of the knowledge right in class and understood quickly, applying well the teacher's lectures.
The supervisor numbers the candidates entering the exam room.
One time during an English oral test, the teacher suddenly called on you, but you went to the board and presented more than 80% of the essay correctly. Even the teacher was surprised because the essay was quite long. When I asked for a secret, you told me that you had self-studied part of the teacher's question by following a program on YouTube, and you answered the "twisted" part by listening to English music.
The boys in my class are quite sharp, absorbing lessons right in class. In subjects that require a lot of application, although they analyze quickly, their scores are still controlled because they subjectively do not study theory. That is also a pity, but their academic ability also makes me "wary".
Motivation to learn is not only for exams, because prescribed tests can be a positive measure to build real learning.
The exam is only a relative assessment.
I personally find it quite difficult to choose a university entrance exam block because the scores in the tests are only relative, and I'm really quite vague about it.
Tests are important for synthesizing and consolidating knowledge, but after the test, students often forget quickly and do not apply the knowledge they have learned in practice. Perhaps because students have little experience and only learn "by rote".
I read and learned that Finland has a developed education system, thanks in no small part to the fact that there is only one final exam at the end of grade 12. This does not reduce the quality of education. Is it because there are no regular, periodic tests that relieve pressure on students? The motivation to study is not only for exams, because the prescribed tests can be a positive measure to build real learning.
Stress before exam
I understand, it is very difficult to change, but at some point we need to absorb the quintessence of human education and make appropriate modifications. That journey, I know, is being carried out by implementing the 2018 General Education program.
Why is the exam only a relative assessment? Because there are students who study very well, get high scores, and are extremely deserving, but the pressure of the exam or unnecessary mistakes can lead to undesirable scores. Or there are students who "cram" and get high scores due to luck. Thus, "Study talent, take the exam fate" still reigns in the 4.0 era.
I wish that the number of classes and tests would be reduced, and that students would be evaluated less by scores. Instead, real-life experiences would be organized, such as learning how to survive in danger... "Pressure creates diamonds" but we cannot deny that pressure will lead to negative psychological syndrome. That "disease" is rooted in the pressure of scores, from parents and teachers setting high expectations, and being compared by people around.
I think families and teachers should not put too much emphasis on scores, but should encourage their children to try hard, motivate their friends, take trips to the beach, go on picnics, and spend more time understanding their children.
Summer is here, I want to learn to swim, read books, watch movies, practice life skills, and prepare to start a business. Please don't rush us to extra classes... 24/7, or one day, adults and children today will regret "who took my summer away".
Let us go with our own feet, hearts and designs.

Share your wishes
We received Thanh Thu's article from one of her teachers, who often writes educational articles for Thanh Nien Newspaper. This is indeed not only Thanh Thu's wish but also the wish of many students who are devoting all their energy to studying for exams, from periodic tests to entrance exams. Every exam is a heavy pressure because in the end, everything comes down to scores for evaluation. This student's wish to make studying easier with knowledge accumulated and memorized, not from "cramming" or "cramming" deserves to be considered by education managers, teachers, schools and parents and have strong changes to truly help students "every day at school is a happy day".
In this spirit, Thanh Nien Newspaper hopes to continue receiving articles, shares, and wishes from readers about educational issues as a school year is about to end and a vibrant summer is coming, with the hope that the next school year will bring changes.
