On September 11, the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province said it had sent a document requesting the leaders of Victory Primary, Secondary and High School (Buon Ma Thuot ward) to urgently contact the parents so that student D.TL (grade 9) could continue to attend school, in order to ensure the rights of the student.

The Department also requested the school to report all information related to the student's suspension from August 26 until now.

"After receiving the report, the department will base on the regulations and school charters to handle the case properly," said a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province.

What does the school report?

According to Victory School’s report, L. was absent from school from August 15 to 22, and had been absent in previous years. The parents did not proactively ask for permission for this absence, the homeroom teacher only learned of the student’s absence afterward.

On August 26, the school decided to suspend L. from attending classes due to the repeated violations. Believing that the student lacked respect for school discipline, causing difficulties for management and affecting the quality of learning, the school decided to temporarily suspend L. from attending classes to discuss and agree on a course of action with the parents.

On September 3, Victory School worked with the parent's representative and recommended considering transferring L. to another learning environment more suitable to the family's conditions.

On September 9, L.'s mother returned from Korea and filed a complaint. On September 10, a meeting was held between the school and the parents. The parents accepted responsibility for not allowing their child to return to school on time and pledged to strictly comply with the school's regulations.

The school also agreed to create conditions for students to return to school from September 11, and assigned teachers to support additional knowledge.

On the morning of September 11, Ms. NTTT (35 years old, mother of L.) let her son return to class. However, she said she did not agree with the school's explanation. According to Ms. T., it is not true that the parents did not ask for permission for their child to stay home from school, and she has evidence to prove this.

"I request the school to clarify the individual and collective responsibilities for not letting my child go to school for 10 days, affecting his psychology," Ms. T. shared.

Readers think that schools expelling students is 'emotional'

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , L. went to Korea to visit her mother and was absent from school for 6 days. When she returned to school, she was asked to leave the classroom, taken to the supervisor's office, and asked to be picked up by her parents.

From August 26 to September 10, the school suspended the student's studies due to unauthorized absence, invalid permission form, and multiple absences in previous years.

The school leader said the handling was based on Article 38, Circular 32 of the Ministry of Education and Training . However, because a disciplinary council has not yet been established, the school has not yet issued an official document suspending L. from school.

"The suspension from class is to give students time to rethink their behavior," school leaders affirmed.

In response to the incident, L.'s mother sent a complaint to the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, requesting that the authorities intervene and handle the matter to ensure her child's right to education.

After the content was posted, many readers expressed disagreement with the school's solution.

Reader Dan commented: "Children's future is the number 1 priority, above all other standards. Children are the country's resources. There cannot be any reason to hinder children's acquisition of knowledge, morality, and personality formation."

Similarly, reader Hong Tran thinks that this way of handling things is too poor, the story does not need to be so serious that students have to transfer schools. The students are still young, and poor handling will affect their psychology later on.

Another reader said: "This year, the opening day is September 5, the actual school day in some schools starts from September 8. The days before are the first day of school and the days of activities to get acquainted with the environment are not counted as school days. The school expelling the student (because the student came to school from August 25) is completely against the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. This student's mother works in Korea, the rest are all unrelated, so coordination between the school and parents is difficult (due to the circumstances).

"After reviewing it, it is impossible to understand why the school expelled the student and expelled him without written notice because there was no meeting to consider. If there was no meeting to consider, who has the right to expel him? The Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province should immediately intervene to ensure the right of children to go to school."

Reader Sy Le also commented: "Foreign schools all have regulations on the maximum number of absences. It doesn't matter what the reason is, as long as you miss enough classes, you have to repeat the class.

This is basically an expulsion, it's hard to judge based on emotions. If the school wants to discipline students, it must first have clear rules, how many days of absence without permission or how many classes late will result in expulsion... There can't be such emotional actions.
