On August 8, 2016, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1562/QD-TTg on the establishment of the Ethnic Academy, on the basis of reorganizing the Ethnic Institute and the Ethnic Cadre School. The Ethnic Academy is a public scientific research and educational institution under the Ethnic Committee, operating under the University Charter.
The Ethnic Academy has gone through a long journey of nearly 20 years of development and constant innovation. The achievements of the Academy have contributed to affirming the success of a research university model in the national education system. It is a key national university with an increasingly large scale, with the model of a research university, training and fostering cadres in ethnic minority areas being increasingly improved.
The Opening Speech presented by Prof. Dr. Tran Trung, Director of the Ethnic Academy, showed that in the 2024-2025 school year, the training scale of the Academy is 117 students, of which 55 are male, 62 are female, 107 are ethnic minority students, accounting for 91% of the total number of students studying. What is special is that 117 students come from 20 provinces across the country, spread from Dien Bien province to Ca Mau cape. Training results in recent times have been gradually innovated, approaching modern teaching methods. For students of the first course, there are 06 students with excellent results; of the second course, there are 05 students with excellent results; of the third course, there are 10 students with excellent results; of the fourth course, students studying in the first semester have not yet had exam results.
The Academy pays attention to the development of teaching staff and identifies it as a key factor in creating training quality. At the same time, the Academy of Ethnic Minorities has signed a cooperation program with many universities and research institutes to expand the team of experts in research, training and education, and attract guest lecturers to the Academy from major universities.
In addition to following the training program, students also participate in events, festivals, practical experience-oriented activities, and student startup seminars at the Academy; at the same time, students can participate in clubs, teams, cultural, artistic, physical and sports activities to improve their spiritual and cultural life; every year, students can participate in volunteer activities. From there, each student has more knowledge and confidence, is more responsible to the community, and strives to study and practice. In that spirit, on behalf of the Academy's leadership, I would like to declare the opening of the 2024-2025 school year.
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Tran Trung expressed his thanks for the attention and guidance of the Party Executive Committee, the leaders of the Ethnic Committee; the effective support of the Departments and units; the coordination of universities, research institutes, and localities in the past time to achieve the results of the Ethnic Academy today.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Y Thong emphasized: Education and training is the top national policy, the cause of the Party, the State and the entire people, and is an important basis for implementing the policy of "Equality, solidarity, respect, and mutual assistance for development among ethnic groups". Over the years, the Party and the State have always paid great attention to and prioritized investment in developing education and training for areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority areas, border areas, islands, remote areas and policy subjects... Many mechanisms and policies have been issued and implemented to meet the learning needs of ethnic minority children and ensure social justice in education.
In that context, despite facing many difficulties and challenges in terms of staff and facilities, the Ethnic Academy has made great efforts and contributions in researching and proposing strategies and policies for ethnic affairs; organizing training for cadres, civil servants and public employees in the political system from the central to local levels and communities nationwide; providing full-time university training to contribute to training human resources for ethnic minority and mountainous areas. On behalf of the leadership of the Ethnic Committee, the Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman acknowledged, commended and congratulated the achievements and contributions of the Academy in the 2023-2024 school year.
In order to successfully carry out the assigned political tasks, in the 2024-2025 school year, the Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman hopes that the Academy of Ethnic Minorities will continue to promote the achieved results, affirm its position and make more efforts in training quality human resources for ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
Continue to implement the Party and State's guidelines, policies, directives and resolutions on education, training and ethnic affairs; concretize them into the Academy's programs and plans.
Carry out well the task of fostering ethnic knowledge and ethnic work for cadres, civil servants and public employees in the political system from the central to local levels. Continue to improve the quality of training; strengthen moral education, lifestyle, life skills, physical education for students, ensure school safety; focus on improving the quality of foreign language teaching and learning, and applying information technology.
Pay attention to and encourage staff and lecturers to regularly improve their professional skills, study to improve their qualifications, participate in scientific research; promote basic scientific research activities and scientific research for students; have policies to encourage students to study in conjunction with scientific research; strengthen coordination with businesses, support students' employment after graduation. Take care of Party building, building Unions, government and implement democratic, public and transparent regulations to ensure political stability, build solidarity in the Academy. Implement well the motto "Building a cultural Academy, exemplary teachers, elegant students".
The Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman hoped that students should strive to study and practice to improve their knowledge and develop their skills; focus on improving their foreign language learning ability and applying information technology so that they will have more opportunities to find jobs in the future and at the same time become good, qualified officials to contribute to the development of their homeland and country.
“Although there are still many challenges, with the achievements that have been made, with the attention and sharing of leaders at all levels, with the love for the profession and enthusiasm of the teaching staff, with the belief in the growth of the Academy, the leaders of the Ethnic Committee believe that the Ethnic Academy will continue to reap many more outstanding achievements in the 2024-2025 school year,” the Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman believes.
On this occasion, the Board of Directors of the Ethnic Academy awarded prizes to 03 new students who were the Valedictorians and Salutatorians; and awarded scholarships to students with high academic achievements in the 2023-2024 school year.
