ASEAN Summit: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets Lao Prime Minister

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the occasion of his official visit to Malaysia and attendance at the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits, on the afternoon of May 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sincerely thanked the Central Executive Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the State, the National Assembly , the Government and the Lao Front for National Construction for their visits and condolences on the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong, emphasizing that the visit of Lao Vice President Pany Yathotou and his delegation to the funeral was extremely meaningful, demonstrating the deep comradely affection, close attachment, loyalty, standing side by side, sharing the joys and sorrows between the two Parties, two States and peoples.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches special importance to its relations with Laos and always strives to foster and develop the Vietnam-Laos relationship sustainably and in greater depth; emphasizing that this meeting is a good opportunity for the two Prime Ministers to discuss specific measures, continue to realize the direction of the two Politburoes , the results of recent high-level meetings and contacts as well as the results of the 47th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee. The Prime Minister asked relevant ministries and branches of the two countries to actively coordinate and exchange to effectively implement important projects to help connect the two economies in terms of transportation, infrastructure, trade, human resources, and supply chains. The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam will continue to actively share experiences and support Laos in the process of building guidelines and policies for national development, education and training, and digital transformation.

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his pleasure at meeting Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh again and agreed with the Prime Minister's assessments and sharing; sincerely thanked Vietnam for its wholehearted, righteous assistance and selfless support for Laos in the past struggle for national liberation as well as in the country's development today; affirmed that the Lao Government will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Government to effectively and on schedule implement key cooperation projects between the two countries, practically celebrating important anniversaries of the two Parties and two States in 2025.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to closely coordinate to effectively implement high-level agreements between the two countries; increase delegation exchanges at all levels and through channels to continuously consolidate the special and strong political relationship of trust; coordinate to ensure security, order and social safety; strengthen security and defense cooperation; strengthen connectivity between the two economies in transport infrastructure, energy, telecommunications and tourism, including continuing to promote the implementation of two important transport connection projects: the Hanoi - Vientiane Expressway and the Vientiane - Vung Ang Railway.
