ILA lights up the future of Giong Noi students with new classrooms

For ILA, each community activity is not just about volunteering, but also about sowing seeds for the future - from spacious classrooms to the innocent smiles of children.

Students of Giong Noi Primary School in their new classroom

The coastal area of Vinh Hai commune (Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang , now Can Tho) has long been accustomed to the sun and wind, with simple schools. So simple that over time, the degraded classrooms, rusty corrugated iron roofs, peeling walls, and crooked desks and chairs have become a part of the children's lives.

In that context, the project 'Upgrading Giong Noi School' implemented by ILA Education Organization through the Light Up The Future Fund has brought a completely new look to Giong Noi Primary School, part of Vinh Hai 4 Primary School cluster. On September 12, 2025, the project was officially handed over, marking a step change in the learning journey of hundreds of students in difficult areas.

Bring joy from practical things

Giong Noi School before upgrading

Just 3 weeks ago, the children were still studying in rooms with leaky ceilings, moldy walls, and damp bathrooms. Every heavy rain was a worry for both teachers and students. That was also the reason why ILA decided to choose Giong Noi as the next destination in its volunteer journey. With a total budget of 280 million VND, many items at the school have been renovated and upgraded.

ILA representative presented 5 classrooms

Five classrooms have been given a new look: painted walls, treated for mold, replaced with rusty corrugated iron roofs, installed ceilings, and equipped with completely new tables and chairs by ILA. The space is now brighter, safer, and more spacious. Separate restrooms for boys and girls have been newly built, clean, and suitable for primary school age. In addition, the existing water system has been supplemented with a handwashing basin, helping students develop better hygiene habits.

This change is highly appreciated by parents and teachers because of its direct impact on children's health and living habits. The project is not simply a repair, but also a regeneration - a regeneration of a worthy school environment for future children.

Gifts to support the new school year

ILA presented 580 gifts to students of Vinh Hai 4 Primary School

Along with the handover of the project, ILA also brought 580 back-to-school gifts to students of Giong Noi school and Vinh Hai 4 Primary School. Each gift included a backpack, notebooks, school supplies and a Mid-Autumn lantern.

New backpacks and sparkling lanterns are not just items, but also a message: 'Children deserve a complete childhood, learning with joy and encouragement'.

On the handover day, Mr. Thai Van Vinh, Principal of Vinh Hai 4 Primary School, shared: 'The most precious thing is not only the spacious classrooms, but also the bright eyes of the children when they study in a safe and clean environment. They feel cared for and are given more motivation to nurture their dreams'.

Tuyet Nhi, a student of class 4A4, Giong Noi school, kept exclaiming: 'The classroom is so beautiful, the restroom is both clean and fragrant. From now on, we no longer have to worry about rain getting our books wet'.

When English becomes a game

ILA's foreign teachers are teaching English to the children.

The highlight of the handover day was the English experience activities taught directly by 3 foreign teachers of ILA. Each lesson lasted 30 minutes, including games, songs and short conversations.

For many children, this was the first time they had studied with a foreign teacher. The confusion quickly turned into excitement. They smiled and repeated each new word, their eyes shining with curiosity. This activity was not intended to turn them into 'English experts' in one session, but to sow the initial seeds: confidence, curiosity and love for foreign languages.

The journey of sowing seeds persistently

The change in Giong Noi is not just a few new classrooms, but also a testament to ILA’s 30-year journey of accompanying Vietnamese education. With the mission of placing human development as the core value for all activities, ILA has created positive impacts on the community and contributed to the training of more than 1 million students. It is a journey to bring equal learning opportunities, inspire confidence and dreams for children in all regions of the country.

'We hope that with these changes, Giong Noi students will have more motivation to study, nurture their dreams and confidently step into a brighter future,' ILA representative shared at the handover ceremony.

That message is simple but enough to show the passion of educators when they leave the classrooms in the city to sow the seeds of knowledge in remote schools, where each child's smile is both a reward and a motivation for a journey of persistent, never-ending sowing.
