Reuters news agency quoted the Israeli army's announcement on October 8 that a day earlier, its 146th Division had begun limited, local operations targeting Hezbollah targets and infrastructure in southwestern Lebanon, expanding military actions to a new area.
Prior to the announcement, Israel issued a similar statement in the southeastern border area of Lebanon.
The Israeli military also issued an Arabic-language warning to seafarers and boat users to stay away from a Lebanese coastal area, announcing it would soon begin operations against Hezbollah from the sea.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), their goal is to clear border areas where Hezbollah fighters are hiding, with no plans to push deeper into Lebanon. However, although the ground operation in Lebanon has been declared localized and limited, the scale of the operation has been increasing since last week.
Meanwhile, the IDF also said that a senior member of the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon was killed in a new attack carried out by Israel in the southern suburbs of the neighboring country's capital Beirut on the night of October 7.
Specifically, the person killed was Suhail Hussein Husseini, a senior member in charge of Hezbollah's budget and logistics.
If confirmed by Hezbollah, the report would mark the latest in a series of attacks that have killed senior leaders and commanders of pro-Iran movements in Israeli strikes.
