Mr. Vu Quang Thang - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Hung Yen - said that currently, Hung Yen longan has been ranked 13th in the Top 50 famous fruits of Vietnam, recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as the most delicious fruit and has been registered for trademark protection "Hung Yen longan, the taste of the king", recognized as a geographical indication to help customers recognize and enjoy genuine Hung Yen longan products.
In addition to bringing Hung Yen longan into the distribution channel of supermarket chains in Hanoi, Hung Yen province continues to coordinate with GO! supermarket and Big C to organize the Longan and Typical Agricultural Products Week of Hung Yen province in Hanoi in 2024 at Big C Thang Long supermarket to promote and introduce genuine Hung Yen longan to domestic and international friends, while directly serving consumers in the capital.

On this occasion, the vegetable and fruit counters of GO!, Big C, and Tops Market supermarkets in the North will reserve the best locations and eye-catching decorations to introduce Hung Yen longan to consumers. At the same time, Central Retail supermarkets also apply attractive promotions of up to 33%, only 29,900 VND/kg (normal price 44,900 VND/kg), to create the best conditions for consumers to easily enjoy genuine Hung Yen longan.
According to data from the Department of Industry and Trade of Hung Yen, in 2024, the area of longan cultivation in Hung Yen province will be 4,700 hectares, with an estimated output of 40,000 tons. According to gardeners, this year, the longan crop failed, so the selling price increased by one and a half times. Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet - Minh Bao Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative - said that this year's longan output only reached 40%. The selling price of large longan is 50,000 - 80,000 VND/kg. The market is mainly domestic.
Sharing on the sidelines of trade promotion for agricultural products in general and Hung Yen longan in particular, Mr. Paul Le - Vice President of Central Retail Vietnam - said that Hung Yen has good products, however, people often pick fresh longan and sell it. However, the promotion and trade promotion work is still "out of sync". It is important to develop a strategy, design packaging, cold storage or contact supermarkets to properly advertise your products before selling.
“Our products are certainly delicious. But the problem is the need for a brand, so that when consumers go to the supermarket and buy longan this year, next year, they go in and “buy with their eyes closed” and know that the brand will be delicious. Building a brand from there marks Hung Yen longan,” Mr. Paul Le shared and said that with the promotion of brand building according to the product story, along with improved packaging according to international standards, Hung Yen longan can be exported to the EU and US markets.
Hung Yen is known as the longan capital of the country, with an area of nearly 5,000 hectares. At this time, many longan gardens are entering the middle of the harvest season. In addition to selling longan to traders, gardeners also combine developing sightseeing and experience tourism , contributing to bringing Hung Yen longan closer to domestic and foreign consumers.
Longan season in Hung Yen lasts about 3 months with 3 main harvests. The first batch is early longan harvested from July 20-30; the second batch is the main season longan from September 7-15; the third batch is late ripe longan harvested until the end of October. Regardless of whether there is a good fruit season or not, the annual ripe longan season always brings Hung Yen a significant economic benefit and potential values for developing sightseeing and agricultural tourism.
