Survey on investment needs for irrigation works in Cat Tien communes

On September 4, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Phuc made a survey and worked on the need for investment in irrigation works in the communes of Cat Tien, Cat Tien 2 and Cat Tien 3.

At the meeting, the Chairmen of the People's Committees of the communes reported on the local activities after the merger. At the same time, they proposed some difficulties and the need to invest in building irrigation systems to serve production and people's lives.

Accordingly, currently, the canal irrigation system in the communes basically meets the irrigation and drainage needs for agricultural production. However, after many years of use, many level 1 and level 2 canals have degraded, silted, and eroded. The solidification rate is still low, so water loss is large, flow regulation is difficult, and the end of the route is weak.

In addition, the network of intra-field canals is currently lacking and not synchronized with the main works. Some temporary sluices and dams are damaged and need timely repair and upgrading plans. Some canals have not been dredged to clear the flow after many years of operation.

Currently, some canals have been silted up. Bushes have grown thickly over the canals, obstructing drainage and often causing widespread flooding of many rice and crop areas...

At the meeting, localities proposed a number of contents such as: Requesting financial support to invest in a number of stream dredging projects to prevent flooding in local fields; investing in the construction of a number of intra-field canals to serve new agricultural irrigation needs...
