Intellectual "treasure" in the midst of heritage

Coming to the Heritage Park of Vietnamese Scientists (international name is Meddom Park), visitors can easily feel the peace of a charming landscape, which is both an ecological park and a special museum. The park officially opened to visitors in 2016, with an initial area of 2.7 hectares, now expanded to more than 34 hectares with a multifunctional and aesthetic architectural complex.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Tru - Chairman of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association, the establishment of the park is an important milestone in the research, preservation and promotion of tangible and intangible heritage values of Vietnamese scientists, and at the same time becomes a tourist destination associated with education and experience.

Dr. Tran Bich Hanh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Museum, said that it is estimated that each year, this place welcomes tens of thousands of domestic and foreign visitors, including a large number of students, contributing to spreading the love of science and inspiring learning and building the homeland.

The Vietnam Scientists Heritage Park was born from the wish of Professor, Doctor, Labor Hero Nguyen Anh Tri, former Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, founder of the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Center.

Since 2008, the unit has collected nearly one million valuable documents and artifacts. The lives and careers of great names in Vietnamese science such as Professors: Ton That Tung, Ho Dac Di, Tu Giay, Bui Dai... or Professors who laid the foundation for military engineering: Tran Dai Nghia, Ta Quang Buu... to dedicated Professors of Agricultural Science: Luong Dinh Cua, Bui Huy Dap, Vu Tuyen Hoang... are vividly recreated here.

Each exhibit has its own story, from an old camera, a notebook, a map, a microscope… to a simple pen, all are associated with the journey of research, teaching and dedication. Thematic exhibitions such as “Aspiration to learn and create”, “Deep in each souvenir”, “Story of the geological profession” or “Science: Creation and dedication” have affirmed the special value of this cultural institution.

Many visitors were moved when they saw with their own eyes a manuscript stained by time, a rusty typewriter, or listened to stories about the arduous research journey to success, the friendships, loves, and teacher-student relationships associated with scientific life.

With a spacious campus and diverse experiences, the park is not only a giant archive but also offers visitors an interesting journey of discovery. The architecture here is creative and symbolic, notably the Book Building - a structure simulating an open book, symbolizing an endless treasure of knowledge.

The building’s five floors of exhibitions take visitors from the history of Vietnamese science, rare artifacts to spaces that recreate the offices of many famous scientists. Notably, the fifth floor is an experience area where visitors can participate in interactive scientific activities.

The natural space in the park is also very rich and romantic with Love Lake, Quy Thuy stream, pine forest, flower garden with more than 500 species of plants, including 200 species of precious wood. Visitors can row rafts, fish, dance or explore the stilt houses of the Muong people; in the orange season (October to December), they can also visit and enjoy local specialties at the nearby Cao Phong orange farms.

Ms. Ta Thanh Huyen from Hanoi shared: “When arriving, everyone was surprised to exclaim: A place like this needs to be known by more people. The works in the shape of “butterfly wings, orange wings, peacocks” create a feeling of both art and closeness”. Many international visitors when visiting have appreciated the unique idea of the park, a cultural - scientific complex that places intellectual heritage in an open space, closely connected with nature and community life.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2, the park recently opened an exhibition titled “Contributions of Vietnamese Scientists in the Cause of Building and Defending the Fatherland”; expected to last for 5 years, with regularly updated content, helping the public clearly visualize the 80-year journey of dedication of Vietnamese intellectuals during the resistance war until the country gained independence and the current socio-economic development.

The combined values of nature and intelligence, science and culture have created the unique charm of the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Park. This is not only a place to honor the scientific heritage and memories of talented scientists, but also a destination with great potential, contributing to enriching the tourism map of Phu Tho and the northern midland and mountainous region.
