According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, Vice Chairwoman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, the death anniversary aims to commemorate and pay tribute to the great contributions of National Hero Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue, and at the same time review the heroic tradition of the Tay Son peasant movement, contributing to educating the morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking" for today's generation.
Along with that, the death anniversary is also an opportunity to promote cultural and historical values, preserve and develop Tay Son relics, associated with cultural, artistic and sports activities, creating a highlight to attract tourists to the heroic land.
The nation's cloth hero
Going back more than two centuries, the image of Emperor Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue (1753 - 1792) still appears as a living legend in the hearts of the nation. From the age of 18, together with his brothers, he raised the flag of the Tay Son uprising, Nguyen Hue continuously made glorious achievements such as overthrowing the Nguyen Lord's government, defeating the Siamese army on the Rach Gam - Xoai Mut River (1785).
In 1786, when he was only 33 years old, he marched to Phu Xuan (now part of Hue City), then Thang Long, wiping out the Trinh lord's power that had existed for more than 200 years.
In 1788, Nguyen Hue ascended the throne as Emperor Quang Trung in Phu Xuan, opening a brilliant dynasty in the history of the nation. Immediately after that, he personally led a large army to Thang Long to fight against the invading Qing army. The peak was the spring of Ky Dau (1789), in the victory of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da, the king in plain clothes in just a few days wiped out 290,000 Qing troops, writing an immortal heroic epic that still resonates today.
There were many people and tourists participating in festivals and events to honor the Tay Son dynasty.

For 21 years (1771 - 1792), Nguyen Hue devoted all his talent and passion to the cause of saving the people and defending the country. He was a victorious general, never having tasted defeat; a genius military strategist with lightning-fast, unexpected fighting style; and at the same time a visionary politician and diplomat. Princess Ngoc Han, his faithful wife, wrote in Ai Tu Van :
"But now in red flag and cloth shirt,
Help people build the country with so many projects.
More than two centuries have passed, but the spirit of the Tay Son uprising and the career of Emperor Quang Trung are still a source of inspiration, a fire that urges future generations to continue. Every death anniversary, every stick of incense, every beat of drum, every tray of offerings are words of gratitude sent to the national hero.
